In case any of you are using this with a AA battery camera, I've upgraded from an istDs to a K20D, and the focus is heaps and heaps quicker on this lens now. It's alomost worth the money just for that! (I'm presuming it's a battery issue)

Funny you mentioned this, because today I was using this lens on my K100D and found it to be slow.

I bought a rubber screw on hood for mine yesterday and it seemed to have helped.
I got a plastic screw on hood for my FA 80-320mm.

Here are a couple of shots from today with this lens..The white duck is slightly over exposed as I was not paying attention to my histogram, but I like the shot....
With out the hood, I would have had massive lens flare...

CS, Thanks..I got it at samys camera. It is a rubber 58mm screw on hood. It cost $9.00 and well worth it.

Nice pics. I peeped at exif and see you were at 320mm. This sharpness kind of exceeds what I was led to expect for this lens. Perhaps because of the cropped sensor?

I know you have a Sigma 70-300 ... or is the Tamron? How do you feel this lens compares? Have you tried this lens with the TC yet? Same question... comparison?

Woof.
I actually have the
70-300 Sigma APO
70-300 Tamron Di
70-300 Sigma DG

Of those the Sigma 70-300APO is my Favorite and sharpest lens.
Compared to the Pentax 80-320, I will give the slight edge to the Sigma.

I did try it with a TC and worked so/so, but was incredibly slow and it really softened up the images making the 320mm fl useless. I think your right though. With the cropped sensor it works well on its own.

Thanks... The color saturation and contrast are certainly attractive. I'm in the market for a long lens that won't break the bank, so I'll likely go with the Sigma... seems like it preserves my options as to adding a TC (based on things I've seen from you).

Thanks again...
