Who wants a DA 29 mm f2.0 lens?

I have the DA 21 mm limited, I love the lens but sometimes find it a bit too wide. Obviously I can crop but it is always nice to crop 'in the camera' while composing. I probably would have been happier with a 24 mm lens producing the field of view of a 35 mm lens on 35 mm film.

I recently acquired the DA 40 mm Limited. Very nice, but again maybe just a hair too long.

I find myself hankering for a 29 mm f2.0 lens. Small, and unobtrusive and with "Limited" quality; hence the f2.0 rather than faster. We really need a normal lens for APSc format sensors.

So who else is hankering for a compact DA Limited 29 mm f2.0 lens?

There's already the FA 31/1.8.

Except for losing the ears,
I don't think a dedicated DA version would be much smaller,
at least without compromising the quality.

Or the Sigma 30mm EX DC f1.4, although I wouldn't really call it " unobtrusive".

Yep the FA31 is next on my list. With a trio of FA 31' FA 43' and the DA*50-135 in my Domke 803 bag I'll be set

I have that lens in Canon EOS mount. I was never happy with my copy of that lens; it always seemed soft to me. As you said it is also far from unobtrusive! I would much rather get the FA 31 mm Limited than repeat that mistake.

True, Pentax has a big gap between 21mm and 35mm. A fast lens around 24mm or 28mm would be great.. especially if it doesnt cost an arm and a leg.. no indication of it happening anytime soon, though..

What about an F or FA 28/2.8 ? They are small and light... Same size as DA15 (not as small as DA21/40/70)

As several others have said, the FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited is EXACTLY the lens you're looking for. The price might give pause to most shutterbugs, but if you're looking for fast glass with insane rendering qualities between 24mm and 35mm then you won't find better than the FA 31mm:

My old Super Tak 28/3.5 still gets a lot of use and I like that size a lot and I would seriously consider a DA in 24 to 28 size range. Yeah, Sigma makes a 24,28, and a 30 and they are decent glass but also quite large. Why 29mm? Too close to the FA31 I think and if Pentax wants to continue the tradition being different, make a DA27.

I just calculated the diagonal of 35 mm and extrapolated. It would be the "normal" lens for the format. 50 mm (if they were really 50 mm) was always slightly on the long side of normal. It was just convenient for Oskar Barnack dince they had that lens when designing the Leica.

They won't thrill you with build quality but they work fine and take 49mm filters. I would look at how I'm using the DA21 and DA40. If it's always wide open and wishing for wider apertures, think about the FA31. When I used my F28/2.8 for a month, I would pick up the camera and see the aperture at f5.6 or f8, and have no pressing need to change that. That was in February too.

Make it a 27mm, and I'm listening. 29 would be a bit too close to 35. I think 15-21-27-35 would be a nice lineup for me

The 31 Ltd is superb, but I wouldn't call it small. Small for a 31/1.8, yes, but not small as in DA Ltd small.

Me wants!

Exactly same thoughts as you. 21mm is nice (I have it), but a tad too wide and the 35mm:s are a bit long. 24-28mm small weather sealed all-around lens, f around 2.5 or maybe even f2.. would buy immedetialy. Then I would have a nice WR set: if zooms, 18-55 + the new 55-300 and if I want to go with primes, the new 24..28mm + 55mm SDM + 100mm macro wr.

I'd be expecting Ricoh to fill up the holes with expensive and fast FF compatible glass rather than limiteds.
