Anyone using Tamron 18-250?

Hey guys, anyone using Tamron 18-250 f3.5-6.3 here?
Kindly give your comments, reviews and some sample pictures as I'm considering this lens to be my next purchase..

I have it, I bought it in a rusk before a trip to Poland last year and while I brought along many high quality glass like limiteds and stars to shoot a wedding, I ended up using the Tamron a lot for general snapshots, you know the king you take hen you come in a new area. UNfortuantely I now have an aperture problem, it stays fixed even if the camera tells me otherwise (Yes I crosschecked the kens on other cameras and onter lenses on the same camera).

As far as I have been able to find I am teh first who has problems with this lens...
I like(d) it a lot.

I have it, excellent choice.
Great walk around lens, long enough for wild life and wide enough for indoors.

Have a look at this album. Picasa-webalbums - Bert - Tanzania 1-9-...
95% of all pictures were taken with that lens.

For the wide end, with blue skys, I compensate the vignetting of the lens in PP.

You will not regret this purchase.

I have it. Great for travel. Besides vignetting in the wide end my only con is the shoftness in the long end when focusing to infinite. In contrast, the long-end works excellent for close ups.

DJey,

This is my only lens right now. My next lens will probably be a direct replacement for the kit lens 18-50 mm but with constant f2.8 for lower light as the 18-250 is not the best lens for low light. As for sample photos just go to the user gallery and do a search on Workingdog. These were all taken with the 18-250. Overall it's a nice lens.

Agree, Great lens for the $$'s though really loving my 28-75 Tamron. Surprised at the Macro shots with this lens. JIMBO

I bought one used and the paperwork shows it to only be 9 months old and it creeps pretty bad when pointing downward. Other than that I think it is a fantastic all in one lens if that is what you are looking for. And as the others have stated vignetting is very apparent at 250.

Those two issues aside, I would still buy it again. I would just buy a new one instead.

Superb outdoor lens. Much sharper than I expected a monster-zoom-range lens could be.

These were taken with the 18-250 at 250mm. I was testing the K20D's continuous focus for improvement over the K100D, so there's no real composition, just some little kid bitin' the dust action

I haven't taken many yet as I'm using a Sigma 17-70 (mostly indoors) owing to 100" of snow (mostly outdoors) and ...

The 18-250 been into Tamron for four weeks (or is it five?) for creep. After demonstrating the creep by pointing down, the shop assistant asked me how often I took photos of my shoes. I advised him that I had tried to shoot the lunar eclipse. Either he possesses a very dry sense of humor and/or he figured out how ignorant I really am.

But at that point he smiled and sent the lens back to Tamron for me at the shop's expense and in their packaging. Nice man. Creepy lens. Slow service.

But I don't regret it. Wait until EAA at Oshkosh!

I have the Pentax version and I LOVE it! I have a lot of pictures with it, since I really only use that lens and my 50mm.

Here's a low light one I took just to compare to my 50mm...

Here are a bunch of indoor photos from Easter... (ignore the ones outdoors because I am a moron and forgot to change the ISO, so they are all crap!)

I've had the 18-250 for well over a year and it is pretty well fixed on either the K100 or (now)
the K20. To my knowledge there is no other like it yet and PTX must agree since they sell it under their name. IQ is very good at all ranges but not as good as primes, of course. Tamron acknowledge the lens creep in their literature and mine does when pointed down. It will be interesting to learn if 'glanglois' gets it fixed............

I've been thinking about this lens for a while, then I convinced myself that the Pentax 50-135mm f2.8 DA was the lens for me, so I've been saving a bit more money.

I very much like the idea of the Tamron, the range is superb. But the Pentax is fast.

I have two main interests in photography, landscape which I can do with the 18 - 55 kit lens. Not the greatest but very good and it does me fine.
My other passion is off road trials and racing, and when I'm not competing I take pictures - like these today with the 18 -55 -

It's possible to get close to the action, and today I noticed that I used the 18MM end of my lens a lot, but I was also wishing I had more than the 55MM.

A lot of shots are panning and zooming as well.

Would the Tamron be a good choice?
