first Tamron 70-200/2.8 photos

Re: Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP AF Di LD IF Macro...etc.: Canon SLR Lens Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

Caveat: shot at too slow a shutter speed by a newbie Canon user on a camera w/o in-body SR ;-)

But at least now we know the Canon mount is available and the Pentax should be a month away.
Hope Codiac or someone w/ access to both Sigma/Tamron 70-200's can do a controlled test :-)

Nice to know it's now showing up at stores but those images don't tell me a thing. They could have been shot with a cheap P&S. I'm sure this lens can do much better than that.

I'd be all over this lens if I was still with Pentax. Unfortunately, it won't be stabilized on a Canon

Oh yeah, those pix aren't very good, but what do you expect for 200mm @1/13s

Actually 1/13s was for the image taken at 17mm focal legth. He had both 17-50 and 70-210.

A Pentax user in this forum also was one of the first to get the Tamron 18-250...just happened to be at a photo event at a local store where a Tamron rep was there w/ a few of the new lenses. Sounds like a similar thing happened w/ that Canon guy.
Early/late May and we'll be able to get the Pentax mount for the Tamron 70-200/2.8 now that the lens is actually shipping :-)

CyberPhoto AB. Vi kan digitalkameror och videokameror. Vi har ven MP3 och Mobiltelefoner.

The comparo photo at f/4 has the Sigma looking best, but the Tamron and Canon both look like they're BF'ing. Look at the light the left of the sign.
The good news is no CA/PF and it looks like it holds its own against the Canon 70-200/4 which is supposedly one of Canon's sharper lenses...

More photos from a different Canon user who has a tripod ;-)
Unfortunately, this thread seems to include mostly macro testing, though the flower looks nice :-P
Tamron 70-200 SP test ( large files): Canon SLR Lens Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

The battery images look a little soft to me, as do some of the photos from the chinese web site. Using a Tamron 2X TC also shows CA/PF. The bokeh seems very nice though...

OttawaPhotog: you're complaining?!? ;-)
The Sigma 70-200/2.8 has HSM and is $100 more. Tamron can't compete if it's the same price because it still uses screw drive...

If the Sigma has true ring-HSM it will be well worth the extra $100 (assuming the optics are up to par). I had/have high hopes for the Tamron 70-200mm, but that was (1)Before Sigma announced the 70-200 with HSM for Pentax and (2)I switched to Canon where none of these lenses are stabilized

So if/when Sigma gets it's act together and releases the 70-200mm HSM for Pentax, it will be a GREAT deal on a stabilized 70-200mm f/2.8. Interesting to see how Sigma's HSM performs compared to Pentax's current micromotor SDM implementation (which I found lacking compared to Canon's USM) For comparison, the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS runs about $1600, so the $800 Sigma would be an absolute freakin' bargain!

Considering the damn FA* 80-200 is running at $2k in Japan (and everywhere else). I think these two are good alternatives. The battery shot using liveview to focus looks pretty decent to me. None of the zoom would be extremely sharp at wide open anyway. It would be more interesting to see the stop down performance of these compared to those Canikon.
