Yeah, we noticed this "problem" a lot!
How about setting up a parallel import channel for Pentax goods from the US to Europe?
We don't need wholesale prices to be profitable! Just retail would do!

Best thing to do is:

Go on holiday to the US, buy the stuff you need. Take it home as used equipment.
Put the documentation in an enveloppe and mail it to yourself.
Trow the boxes away.
At home, buy an UK powerplug for any battery charger involved.

I didn't tell you this

Hey, you are in Europe! Didn't you know that?
You can purchase the lenses from USA, pay 6,7% of customs duty plus your local VAT and you'll still be way below UK prices. I'm doing it the same.
I just don't know about the warranty, but I think you can pay an insurace for this at any local photo shop, that offers that.

All pentax products have a worldwide warranty don't they?

I got my first camera from France because it was about 150 cheaper.
And my 540 flash from Hong Kong because it was 150 cheaper too, I never paid any vat/duty

Do you know of usa webstore that will post to the uk? That way you get a readable manual too

Yes, they have a worldwide warranty, and they also have not... In Slovenia, I don't have a Pentax service, which will take it into account.

You will not pay VAT/duty for purchases inside EU, but you'll pay them for deliveries from 3rd countries. I wonder how comes, you didn't pay it from Hong Kong. Maybe the flash wasn't delivered from Hong Kong?

Try B&H Photo Video....I don't know if I'm allowed to post a direct links)

I worked out if I bought the DA* 16-50mm from B&H

Shipped 376.14

I could save 100 but otherwise I'd only save about 10

Shipped with the possible 6.7% duty + 17.5 vat on top 466

Hey sure, you *can* benefit from the $ weakness.

Step 1: Befriend an American (we are generally housebroken, but sometimes whiny)
Step 2: Get American friend to buy you lenses and "smuggle" them into the UK
Step 3: Enjoy taking photos of merry old England together.
Step 4: Buy the American lots of beers to make up for all the $$$$ / he saved you!

The next time any of my American friends come here they'd better not plan on bringing any clothes, they're going to need the suitcase for all my lenses!

My brother has just come over from Canada, so I obviously looked at their prices but the Canucks are paying almost exactly the same as we are.
