My best deal is getting a Vivitar 24mm f/2.8 prime bundled with a Pentax p5 camera for cheap. The lens probably cost me $5.0.

Cheers,
Hin

Boy, oh boy did I get a deal today:
  • Pentax MZ-10 body in good working condition (except for the spring that holds up the flash)
  • Pentax FA 28-200 f/3.8-5.6 zoom lens with bayonet hood
  • Sigma 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 standard zoom lens
  • Tokina circ. polarizing and UV filters for the FA 28-200 (72mm... these don't come cheap)
  • Unopened Hoya 55mm circ. polarizing filter (with $55 price tag still intact )
  • Lens caps and manuals for all
  • Mid-size Lowepro Nova 2 SLR bag in great shape ($45 new )
  • Random "Imodium" tablet left in bag

All that for $60 from a moving sale

ebay and pawn shops

I bought my 50 1.4 for $24 from ebay several years ago and thought I'd paid way too much. I got a pristine SMC-M 200/4 for $19 from a pawn shop. Finally found a pristine Tamron SP 70-210/3.5 with caps, case, hood & mount for $59 from ebay recently. A Sigma filtermatic 24MM M42 from a pawn shop for $8. I also have an entire line up of Takumar, Takumar SMC, and Takumar Super Multi Coated M42 lenses when I was on a buying spree with ebay years ago; none of which I paid more than $37. These include a few 50 and 55mm/1.4, 28/3.5, 35/3.5, 105/2.8, 135/2.5, 200/4, and a couple of 300/4-one as new with tripod mount, one well-used and beat up by a pro, but with excellent glass.

I got some not so great deals on used equipment from camera stores. Back in the 80's, I paid way too much for an SMC 17mm fish eye, and an SMC 18mm rectilinear. However, if sold today, I'd probably get my investment back.

I've found, at least locally, pawn shops have more or less moved on from film camera gear. They only seem interested in video and digital point and shoots. Very few have lenses.

Don't have a lot of gear to relate with (as of yet) - probably best coup was my 50mm M f1.4 in mint shape for $44 incl. shipping? Or the A 2.0 for $14?
Recent bargain was a nice Nikon D70 body with under 9000 snaps for $200. (I had a few lenses left over form my film days and needed something a little faster in the inside focus dept.)

Of course, Cameta selling their Sigma 24-60 f2.8's out last week scored me a new, warranted fast lens for just $199 delivered. I sorta dug that deal. :-D

Well, it was not a Pentax deal but bunch of years ago (when digital cameras had only VGA resolution sensors) I picked up Olympus OM-PC camera at the garage sale. Owner told me that the camera is not working. At the $3 price tag I figured that it would be worth to get it just to play with it so I purchased it. Went home, put new battery in and the camera was working. Used it for about 1.5 years and sold it for $120 on fleabay

Pentax deal? Like new Sigma 70-300mm with caps and case for $61 shipped. Still use this lens and love it.
