DFA 100 marco - getting HD treatment?

I currently have the Kiron 105mm macro lens and whilst it's an excellent lens it's massive focus through and very heavily damped ring make it quite a slow lens to use. I find getting anything into focus takes ages! I am also not convinced that it's performance is super great on the K-01.

Anyway, I've been looking at the DFA 100mm WR macro as a replacement. However with all the HD refreshing going on at the moment I am concerned that this lens might get the HD treatment in the not too distant future.

I was wondering if anyone had heard any rumours?

lol!

Yeah, sorry. I should of thought about that.

It just strikes me as a good candidate. Although my understanding is that the macro is pretty could for contrast anyway and its really deep lens hood presumably helps with flare and so I wonder how useful the HD coating would be on it.

Why? It's already a stellar lens, it's not like it is lacking in any respect.

I would think it should be quite low on the upgrade list. It is almost perfect as it is.

I say its a good candidate to upgrade because it is the most limited like prime that isn't a limited in the range. It would be an easy way to further highlight to HD brand.

I suspect all lenses will be transitioned to HD at some point. But I think this is more of a manufacturing priority than any large improvement it will make to the lens. Ricoh is moving to HD and has invested in the technology and equipment to do so. When they refresh a lens it will go to HD, but I also think the DFA 100 is a very low priority for that. It is excellent as is and having it HD will improve it only marginally and will almost certainly raise the price. Which lens gets refreshed next might have more to do with how much inventory is on the shelf than anything else.

I dont think we have any news, maybe Adam or one of the guys closer to Pentax dealers knows. Just keep in mind that a new lens won't make the "older" one any worse, and the newer one will probably cost more. I would only wait for the newer version if it was already announced and it had some extra features, like focus limiter and such, but I doubt that will happen.

Even if I agree that it's everything as good as a limited, the inner barrel is plastic and it might not be made by hand, two requirements for a limited. HD has nothing to do with it, because regarding IQ it's just as good as any limited.

I hope that it is upgraded so that the price of the original drops...
