Not a comparison there with both lenses used on same body, but still som information. Both lenses are rated very good.

i don't know either...
17-50 is obviously sharper, but i really don't like its bokeh and 18-50 is not sharp at the borders.... and it is 18 mm....

is the tamron available for pentax? Their website has it listed for conikon and sony
