Pentax must renew DA* lenses

I saw the AF-C test of Pentax K-3 which had 67% of keeper rate. Well he used 60-250 which is little bit slow lens. On the other hand, Nikon 70-200 is the perfect lens that other brands can not made this kind of fast focus lens.

According to some reviewer from Asia, he claim that several lens can not support K-3's auto focus speed. In conclusion, Pentax should renew Da* especially 16-50 and 50-135 which are first Da* lenses since 2007. those lens didn't change anything until now for 6 years!! They really need to renew those lens in order to keep Crop sensor camera.

I agree with replacing both those lenses manly because they don't rate highly enough given their price and "star" qualification.

I agree, they should update the DA*'s with DC (or whatever they want to call it) AF motors and their high-end coating.

Still don't understand why Pentax selling 2007 produced lens until now with slight increase of price... It has to be lower than $800 now.

They should add HD coating and ABC, DC motor, redesign, and etc

In the place of Ricoh's senior management, what seems to be their current strategy is the one I'd be favouring. The focus (pardon the pun) has had to be on getting new camera bodies out the door, tweaking existing lens designs in the enthusiast range (ie the DA Limited range) and then maybe working on the DA* lineup. However, the inclusion of WR on the new DA20-40/2.8-4, the release of the DA560/5.6 as a high-end prime (though without calling it a Limited or a DA*) suggests they may be considering moving away from the DA* line and more into the DA Limited line. It would be a shame to abandon the DA* zooms, though, with their constant maximum aperture, although the DA*60-250/4 could go to f2.8 as a high-end tele-zoom, and the DA*50-135/2.8 could be taken out to f2.0, placing them well above the Limiteds in speed, as a point of differentiation. The DA*16-50/2.8 could conceivably go to f2.0, but it'd possibly be something of a monster.

50-135 f2.0 could be very big size of lens...

18-35 f/1.8 has big and heavy size. 24-70 f2.0 have similar size as 70-200...

Sigma: Performance but big and heavy.

Pentax: small and portable but aperture

Yes, that's why I've considered that the DA* range could move up in size, in order to gain more speed and retain silent focus, hopefully in a more reliable form. The price would be commensurate with this change, leaving the DA Limited range as a more affordable, lighter weight set of options, while still providing excellent optics.
