Hey,
I have a Pentax K 24mm f.2.8 lens that needs a hood. I can not not find the dedicated hood at the moment but I have found a PH-S52 hood designed for the 28mm 3.5 lens.

1: Will this hood (which from pictures looks very very similar) work on my 24mm without vignetting.

And/or:

2: Would a regular wide angle 52mm threaded hood work just as well??

Thanks so much.

NOTE - I am shooting 35mm film ONLY, so no crop censors

On APS-C, you should be fine with either hood I'd say.

If you're a photographer (as opposed to a collector),
and you get this hood,
you could always trim the corners
if you find it is vignetting.

Another alternative might be the Nikon HN-1 52mm screw-in wide angle hood:

or this knock-off:

Thanks guys for the input - I think I'd rather get the square hood and trim it because I am not a collector and in the Ansel Adams book, "the camera" he says square shaped hoods are better than round ones.

Has anyone ever used the more common PH-s52mm hood designed for the 28mm 3.5 lens on a 24mm 2.8 lens??

Thanks again!

No I have not tried the 52mm square hood for the K28-35 lenses on the K24/2.8, but I would suspect vignetting as you are shooting film. I would recommend checking eBay or KEH, as it will show up eventually. I took me awhile to find my copies of this hood.

One of these should work just fine. They have a small ring that you can adjust to keep the hood aligned properly. Once you get it setup right you won't have to worry about it again.

Hello,

I have the square hood of 52 mm. which is common for the K 28/2 , K 28 /3,5 , K 35/2 and K 35 /3,5 and have tested on my K 24 f/2,8 in the past with film with the result of vignetting. However , now using the K 10D with the K 24 /2,8 and the same hood , works fine without vignetting .
Apparently is almost impossible to get the dedicated hood of the K 24.

Just keep checking eBay, it will show up some day.

Here is a picture of the hood for your reference.
