What's sigma's reasoning after having no new 30mm/1.4 for PK mount?

totally don't understand why they end up with such a decision.

I'm sure the business folks at Sigma aren't saying, so we can only make some guesses here. Mine is that the business case is not worth Sigma's efforts at this point in time. Pentax market share is tiny. Maybe the K-3 will begin to change that. Then we will see increased money making opportunities for third parties.

I'm thinking there isn't enough revenue generated from Pentax products to justify the line.

I'm just guessing of course, but that would be my first guess.

Yea... They don't have and never had plans for K mount....

But i believe there would be some hope with more people writing in to enquire..
They're hinting that they will ask the relevant dept to look into it but no promises...

So yea.... It really is due to the lack of support from K mount users...

I was thinking exactly the same way in the beginning.

But sigma did release 35mm/1.4 with PK mount. That made me completely confused.... why would we need a FF lens while there is no actually FF body available, and ironically the crop sensor alternative is cancelled

just totally does not make any sense with those sigma guys

Well, like Fanotec who came to rescue when people asked for a third party tripod foot with Arcaswiss for Pentax and made a limited run. Now they tell us that it will take years to get rid of that small run with current sell rate. If people aren't buying and available stock is collecting dust in some corner the chances of new products released diminishes quickly.

I too too thought it weird that the 35 f1.4 is in k mount, but the 30 not. Also the new 50-150 is not available. I emailed Sigma and they said the sales would be too low. Then why release the 18-35 f1.8 in k mount then??&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;<br />

I'm guessing Sigma modularized the mount part to the point where an investment into an otherwise sigma-supported mount, such as Pentax K, is mostly production cost and market prediction errors. Consequently, a clearly perceived demand should be enough to invest. That's why we get the 18-35 though Pentax wasn't originally targeted. The same with the 35 f/1.4. As to why they won't make the 30 f/1.4, I can't say. Could be they think the FA31 is too much of a competition.

Chicken or the egg? Is it difficult to sell off brand PK lenses to Pentaxians? Or are Pentaxians unable to buy them because there is so little demand? To fix such a circle, both have to be fixed at the same time. Not easy.

I do think Sigma is making a mistake not making the wide & fast lenses available for Pentaxians, that's exactly one of the major parts where the Pentax lineup is lacking.
