Help me PAIR my Helios 44-2

Hello, im currently collecting lenses (50mm's) and im really interested on the russians! Im collecting in pairs so i can do a simple tests.
I already have a pair of zenitar 50's, takumar 50's, smc pentax 50's.
I have a copy of Helios 44-2 m42 valdai and i need an advice on what helios version should i pair it with.
Im thinking of Helios 44-3, 44M, 44M-7. Im also considering a Helios 77M-4 to test it against my modern DA50/1.8 but as what ive read, the 77M-4 is kinda overrated, its said to be similar to pentacon 50/1.8 so maybe ill opt this out.
Please advice on which helios should be an interesting pair with a single coated 44-2.

I have an Industar-50 so i might pair it with Industar 61 LZ (macro)

Thank you guys! Looking forward to your response.

How about the Helios 44-3? Better coatings.

Thank you Sir for the response. I searched on ebay but almost all 44-3 available is made from 1986 below which i believe to have a Focus ring-mount clearance issue..
I need a helios 44 other than 44-2 so i can test their characteristics...Thanks again Sir..

First you get Helios 44 M39 with 13 aperture blades...then you get an M39 Mir 37mm 2.8....and after that you get M39 Tair-11 133mm f/2.8. After all that you sell your Helios 44-2 and buy Zenit-C (Zenit-S) M39 SLR body to use those lenses with and one (or three) M39 to M42 adapter rings to use on your DSLR with the M42 to K mount adapter which I assume you already have.

P.S. I do! realize it's an old thread.

Very late in the day but I'm not the only one.

I would have suggested the -44M. It has a stop down switch and a nice wide base. Plus I have 2 copies and both of them are cosmetically reasonable and work fine!!! I also have 2 copies of the 44-2 and both are well tatty and need re-greasing as they are stiff. Maybe it's because the M's are newer?

I'm looking out for a 44M-7, interesting to read that people are faking them.

I'd read (possibly live in for a few days) the Russian lens thread in the lens club section of the forum, and then figure out which of those lenses was best at making kinds of pictures I wanted to make -- but then I am not a lens "collector," merely a lens accreter and user.

I always thought about the Helios 44 in K mount, and the Helios 44 in m39. I actually have a black 44-2 in m42 and a silver 44 in m39, but I never got an adapter for the m39 version, so I never tried it on a DSLR.
Anyway, I would recommend the K mount version. It doesn't require an adapter, it has better coatings, its probably sharper. On the flip side, it has less of that crazy, swirly bokeh.
I quite like my 44-2, but it is not sharp wide open, so I might get another 44-2 and keep the sharper copy for myself, sell of the other. But honestly, I'd rather get a lens of a focal length I don't already have covered.
I actually prefer my Industar 50-2, as it has a different character, tessar lens, with no CA. Main downside is the narrow mount and super soft corners.

Btw, there are a couple members here who collect primes in the 50mm region. There are numerous threads about 50mm comparisons, you might want to look for them. Some are fairly old

Yes the 44k is probably the most convenient to use as it's a 44m-4 (so MC coating) developed for the Zenit Automat and the later Zenit with K mount.

The Helios 77 and the Zenitar 1.9 also exists in K mount but they are kind of rare, my understanding is that the Helios 77 was developed by the belorussians for updating the Zenit EM and the 15 that were still produced by Belomo, the EM came in two flavour, with and without lightmeter. Expensive EMs got the 77, cheap ones the 44m6 and later the m7.

KMZ developed as "better" lens the Zenitar 1.7 and the simplified 1.9 later, I don't think I've ever seen a 77 with KMZ markings.

Personally I'm on a solitary hunt to get a 77K but I think it's like chasing unicorns.

These are some shots I've taken with the 44k, an Almaz 103 and XP2...not PP, not metered at all, just exposure "guessed".
