WR lens options

I have a new K-50 and currently own the 15 and 40 Limiteds. I'm getting a 70 Limited, and that will be my everyday kit.

I want something WR while keeping the cost down. Would you choose the 18-135 ($364 used) or the 55-300 ($450 new). The latter would give me reach and, at 55mm, a nearly normal FL. The former is, of course, a general purpose range that still leaves me without telephoto capability.

Any thoughts? Other options?

Which is more important to you? If you feel hampered by the lack of long zoom, the 55-300 is nice. I don't have the WR version, but the standard is good.
I like the 18-135 but past 100mm the images start to get a little soft. Not unusable by any means, but it's something to consider. It's a great walkaround zoom, but it doesn't have a lot of reach.

Clearly the 55-300 for the reasons you mention, plus more than half the focal range of the 18-135 you already have covered, more or less.

Low-cost WR to me = DA50-200WR. It can be found for quite a lot less than those other two, especially here in the Marketplace. I will probably shift to the 55-300WR in a year or so, but for now the 50-200 does very well. It also takes the same filters as the Limited primes, which is a real bonus on a budget!

I thought about the 50-200, but reviews are not enthusiastic. I haven't used it though.

I am enthusiastic about mine, but I had to fix it before it focused to infinity. The only image quality problem that I have now is some vignetting wide open. And Adobe Camera RAW doesn't recognize it until I choose the lens brand.

I got my K-7 with the 18-55 WR. The 18-135 wasn't out then. I got the 50-200 WR before the 55-300 WR version was announced. Choosing today would be harder. If you know that you will be in iffy weather a lot, you can give up on the long telephoto - 300mm in light rain can't be that good, and you may run out of light for that length. Also lens changes are difficult. That would lead me to the 18-135. It's pretty dry here so I like the 18-55 and 50-200 combination.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you want to supplement your primes with a zoom covering a similar range, the 18-55 WR would be a very cheap and quite decent solution. You could consider getting the 100mm macro WR instead of the 70 and expand on your WR range.
