3rd Party Lenses; What's Available?

Hello to my fellow Pentaxians,
A commonly heard complaint here, is regarding the lack of 3rd-party new lenses available in Pentax mount. It's unquestionably true that companies like Sigma, Tamron, Vivitar and Tokina don't support P-K nearly as well as the other brands. But, most do have some offerings in Pentax Mount.
Right. How many?
In the case of Tokina, exactly zero. None, nada. The drop-down menu "Select camera type" on the Tokina home site lists Canon FF and APS-C, Nikon FF and APS-C, and Sony Alpha APS-C. That's it. Scratch them off your list. Maybe a flood of eMails from irate Pentax users might get their attention?
Sigma is a different story altogether. Slightly more than half their extensive lens inventory, including several fast primes, are made in P-K.
Perhaps surprisingly, Samyang is second, with 11 lenses for Pentax, all primes. 3 of these are the infamous T-mount, all long, fairly slow, mirror telephotos. Several of the Samyangs are manual focus.
Third, with 10 lenses for Pentax, is Tamron. 1 prime (the well-regarded 90mm f/2.8 Macro) and the other 9, zooms.
Vivitar is hard to figure. A few are the re-badged Samyang fast primes and long telephotos, some also sold as Bower.
Following is the list, by focal length (or shortest starting FL in a zoom) of NEW and currently available 3rd party lenses for Pentax. Prices are from B + H or Adorama, rounded off to even US $$. Needless to say, some are made for (both) FF and APS-C (in other mounts), but here, it doesn't matter. As long as they're made for Pentax APS-C, I've listed them. Also, no adaptors except M42, T-mount or Adaptall -compatable.
Applicable additions and corrections welcome.
Hope it's useful!

That's it, for now! 40 primes (not counting re-badged Samyangs) and 27 zooms (counting the 'available for pre-order' Sigma). I've overlooked a few, smaller companies (many rebadged) like Promaster, but Cosina is next on my 'to-do' list, if they're still making lenses.
Almost forgot...Ricoh/Pentax homesite, DSLR lens listing; RICOH Digital Camera Lens Lineup

New addition, Samyang has announced the release of 6 video lenses now in Pentax mount. Prices aren't available yet, but I'd expect them to be in line with the current Canon and Nikon prices listed at B+H. The cine lenses are as follows;
Samyang V- DSLR 8mm T3.8 Pentax CS II
Samyang V- DSLR 14mm T3.1 Pentax
Samyang V- DSLR 16mm T2.2 Pentax
Samyang V- DSLR 24mm T1.5 Pentax
Samyang V- DSLR 35mm T 1.5 Pentax
Samyang V- DSLR 85mm T1.5 Pentax
Thanks to NickLarsson for finding this!

One more edit, some totals for lens availability. Including OEM Pentax lenses listed on the Ricoh/Pentax site (with the new DA 20-40mm Ltd and the still-listed DA 16-45mm) there are 19 primes and 14 zooms (33) from Pentax.

Tokina (part of THK with Hoya & Kenco) is a tricky subject. Many Tokina lenses in the market for others are duplicates of DA lenses (10-17, 16-50 and more) so they are sort of represented. And Hoya sold the Pentax brand to Ricoh, so who's to say how the relationship is now?

Tamron is partly owned by Sony, so while I'd like to see more from them it's not a surprise that they seek easier markets first. They too have licensed a few DA lenses, notably the 18-250 and -270 superultramegazooms.

In both cases, a few million more Pentax bodies can shuffle the equations and bring us chickens a few more eggs!

More Lenses?

Hello Giklab, thanks for your reply! I've added the various re-badged Samyangs, at least the ones I could find available at the 2 major online stores mentioned.
I've also added the Sigma zooms.

@ Jim, yes, the Tokina story gets more tangled as it goes on! But you're right, the higher Pentax moves into the market, the more lenses we'll see.
Thanks,
Ron

And, More Lenses!

A bit more research turned up additional lenses available (more or less) for Pentax.
The Schneider 50mm f/2.8 Tilt/Shift Perspective Control Super Angulon and the Schneider 90mm f/4.5 TS PC Makro-Symmar, both over $3,000. Available at B + H.
2 Zooms from Phoenix, the 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5, and 18-210mm f/4.2-6.5, both under $200.
The Lensbaby 35mm f/2.5 Composer Pro, $380
Last, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, apparently discontinued in Pentax mount, is now listed as 'Available for pre-order' from B + H. $800.

Thanks for the list. I think the Samyang 13mm and 14mm are the same lens. The Vivitar labeled version says 13 while all the others say 14.

Added 3 More

I've added 3 more lenses to the list, the Zeiss 25mm, 35mm and 50mm. These are M42 mount, manual focus lenses.

There are also some "oddballs" like the Mitakon 85mm and 135mm, Horus Bennu 50mm f1.7, Zenitar 16mm, Zenitar 50mm f2.0 (and possibly others, I am not good at navigating those Russian websites. think there are some zooms, too), Peleng 8mm.. I think all of these are available "as new" and are pretty cheap to order. Native K mount, but next to no automation (some are also available in m42). While some of these lens designs have been around for a long time, these are not used, second hand lenses, but new ones. Maybe old designs, old stock. I cannot vouch for their quality, but some PF members tried them. Apparently, they are not bad for the price, but might need some adjustments.

Edit: And no, Vivitar apparently makes two UWA lenses, one is a Samyang 14mm clone, and the other is actually different - it has different specs listed on websites, different elements and groups. I think someone even asked B&H about it, and they replied that its two different lenses. But I would be very interested if someone actually bought both and compared them.

More Lenses?

Hi, Na Horuk,
Thanks for suggesting those, I took a long trip on eBay and found most of them. I've listed the ones I could find, I'll keep an eye out for the Peleng 8mm.
I appreciate the contributions!

About the Peleng:
I think these are produced in Belarus.

It comes K-mount and m42. It was reviewed by photozone. And I think you can also buy it here. Apparently there is also a Peleng 17mm available in m42.

Oh, and you can also add the Arsat tilt/shift lenses (Produced by Arax in Ukraine?).
is an interesting introductory video.

I don't own any of these lenses, just know that they exist. Oddly enough, some of those websites claim these lenses get shipped from the USA. I thought they were all remnants of Soviet optics factories. Maybe someone from that part of the world can shed some light on it. Zenit foto is also up and running again, with a new batch of Helios 40-2.

Here's three of my lenses that I don't find on the list, whereas these are lenses I do use often enough:
- Samyang 24mm f/3.5 Tilt/Shift
- Revuenon 55mm f/1.2
- Hartblei Super Rotator 65mm f/3.5 (tilt/shift)

Though I'm not sure the latter two are still available... The first one certainly is.

Hard-To-Find?

Hello Ishpuini,
The Samyang 24mm tilt/shift is certainly made in Pentax mount, as listed on the Samyang UK site. However, I used B + H, Adorama and Amazon US as my primary sources for availability (as noted in my opening post) and none of those 3 sources list it in PK mount. All three, however, list it in the (re-badged) Rokinon version. So, that's what I put on the list.
Obviously, this is a world-wide forum, so if a lens is available internationally, it should be added. I have now included it on the list.
I'll check on the Revuenon and Hartblei lenses soon.
Thank you for your contribution.
