50-135 2.8 motor question

I'm looking to get the 50-135 . but I have read about motor in the lens problems. Is this a on going problem with the lens or is there a serial number or year the lens is made that they fixed the problem. If so could some one let me know that year or number. Thanks in advance Steve

Any lens made in the second half of 2012 or later should be problem-free. Take a look at the serial number database to look at serial number trends:

Hi Adam . I'm sorry but I'm stupid .I looked at the serial numbers and the dates purchased and I can't figure out what serial number would be the magic number would be between the good motor and the bad ones. There is a March 2012 with a 9297400 that is higher than all the November 2012 numbers listed. and a Jan 2013 with a lower number 9296869 than the higher march 2012 number 9297400 . So does this mean that all the lens bought in Jan 2013 with lower numbers than the March 2012 9297400 were made before March 2012 and have the bad motors . Does anyone know the Magic cut off serial number from the good motor and the bad ones.
