Worth getting these lenses cleaned up or money towards better ones?

hey fellas,

So I got a Sigma DG 70-300 4-5.6 Macro and a Sigma DC 18-125 3.5-5.6 with a K100D I picked up recently and have noticed that they both have a considerable amount of dust and a bit of fungus by the looks of it.

The only pricing I can get is $66 an hour labour, I'm assuming theres a couple of hours involved and from what I can see these lenses are only worth

Used or New?

Hello McChucklenuts, welcome to the forum!
In the case of the 70-300mm, I'd say buy a new one. For about the repair price quoted, you're better off;
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Autofocus Lens 508109 B&H
With the super-zoom, a new replacement would cost $300-$350, so the issue is not so clear. Assuming you buy a new 70-300mm, you really only need an 18-70mm (roughly), not the tele end, since you've already got it covered with the telephoto zoom. So, you might want to compare prices here;
In addition to available Pentax-brand lenses.
Generally speaking, having it done professionally must be weighed against the time, $$ and possibility that the lens has other problems, vs the peace of mind (and warranty!) of a new purchase.
Unless you can do it yourself, or it's an exceptionally valuable, rare or specialty lens.
JMO, good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

They are both used.
I'm not too fussed as for the use I would have with the 70-300 I use my Nikon D7000.

I would have more use with the 18-125, or a couple of primes, as I'm finding the K100D to be much nicer for artsy stuff.
I do also have a couple of M42 primes to use (mamiya sekor sx 55/1.8 and pentacon 1.8/50 auto),Tokina 135mm 2.8 , no idea what they are like though, still need to get an adapter.
Also have a Hanimex 80-200 but has a ton of oil on the blades and wont move, the same with a Chinar 80-200.

I might attempt it myself, try and learn, the lens is pretty useless on things with a plain background, dark lines all over the place.
The 18-125 is not really that good either but passable in some uses.
