Seems to be the luck of the draw in the case of the 16-50 but my copy looks to be very sharp, bought this black friday. Before I bought it I was also considering every other option because I was afraid of the inconsistency in quality control. But the way I thought about it in the end is that I would have owned one regardless down the road, so with the BF deal I figured why not sooner rather than later.
