Teleconverters & tele primes

As you can see with my sig, I have the F70-210, but the truth is that I don't use it that much and it's a bit heavy. I could just get rid of it, but it would be my luck that I'd need it and not have it (the max I would have would be 70mm), so my thought is to pick up a M135/3.5, along with a TC in the 1.5x range. With the camera's 1.5x crop factor, the 135 would turn into 202.5mm and the TC would turn that into 303.75mm, which would suit my needs just fine.

Has anybody tried this combo (or something similar)? What do you think?

I have also toyed with the idea of splurging and picking up the DA*50-135 and doing something similar--of course the first idea would be alot cheaper.

Thanks!
Heather

Not along the lines you were thinking but, for about the cost of a quality TC you can buy that Tamron 70-300 4-5.6 Di-LD MACRO.. It's about $140, has great image quality and, gives you 1:2 macro to boot! I was skeptical of the lens, said it was too cheap to be any good but I was wrong.

I would think the M135 F3.5 is just too slow a lens when used with a TC. for the extra F stop that you give up with a 1.4x, you would be much better with the SMC 135mm F2.5. This would give you 190mm F4 which is not too bad. Note the 135 mm F2.5 is a lot heavier than the M 135 f3.5, but is in my opinion a much better lens.

the other option, if you want a really great lens is a Vivitar Series 1 70-210 F3.5

I have the version 1 lens and it is very good, and can also do 1:3 macro. BUT it weighs about 2 pounds
