advice about the M 28mm f2.0

Hi,

Recently I found a Pentax M 2.8 f 2.0 at 290 euros. There is tonns of information about the K version, the "holliwood" pentax, absolutely lovely lens, but there is almost no information about the M version, apart from the fact that opticallly is the same that the A version.

Anyone here has been working with this lens? Does it give the same wonderful touch to the portraits than the K version? Is the barrel distorsion any serious issue?

Thanks,

Alfonso

Are you not referring to M28 2.8 instead?
If so, this is not worth 290 euro.

I was more impressed with the M28 3.5

$290 euros seems to be a good price, considering it would have cost the equivalent of $912 when new.

I can't afford one right now, so I just bought the much less impressive Vivitar 28/2.

well, i picked up an M28 3.5 for about 40euros and it also gets a high score & it's a great lens.
it would have to get a lot better to put down 290euros. Maybe it is though...

Well, the average rating of the 3.5 in the database is 8.92, the average rating of the 2 is 9.40 (slightly lower than the K/2 rating of 9.56, but that's a SMC Distagon...).

I had a M28/3.5 and sold it because I also have an A28/2.8, which is much more convenient on a DSLR, and the M version of the Sigma Mini-wide 28/2.8.

yes, I saw it. But is it really worth it?
In case I ever cross one... :-) 290 is still a lot of money, but i know, everything is relative...

When it comes to wide angle lenses...

Fast - Good - Cheap, pick two.

That is the point, 290 euros is quite a lot, but if the lens it performs similar to the "Pentax distagon"...
It have not the famous floating lens of the Distagon (I am not sure what exactly this term means). Some people tells that is no tahta good, some people put it very close to the distagon... but very, very little information and or owners as far as I know...

Boriscleto are you happy with the Vivitar? Does it do a noce jobs for portraits with contextual background?

Thanks for all the answers.

Ratings are of very limited usefulness, since not everyone rates the same lenses, and everyone has his own criteria. A lens getting constant 5 or 6 is a dog, but a lens above 8 can be just as good as a lens above 9.

UPS only brought it yesterday. I haven't even had time to take the Vivitar aperture shield off yet...

The A28/2 is good, as all 28/2 lenses.
It is a bit better than my Kiron 28/2. About the same with Nikkor 28/2 ais, may be it is a bit better contrast than the Nikkor.

When compare with K28/2, it is different. K28/2 has typical Zeiss rending, great contrast, while A28/2 might have more neutral colors/contrast.
Size and weight is also different between A and K version. I have CZ 2/28 c/y - K28/2 is Distagon 2/28.

Checked the sold price: it is a very good price.
