It actually looks a lot bigger in real life than I expected it to be! Nice, though- I hope you enjoy the lens

Looks great! How do you like the handling? I've heard people say it's lighter than its size may suggest--do you find that to be true for you?

Put the hood on the DA* for a fair size comparison!

The larger 55mm filter size was a clue, a supersized Limited. Still it's high on my list, as I'm WR-free below 50mm right now...

I do find that to be true. It is a very quality built lens. Not sure I need it and the new 16-50 too at this time. It could easily replace the 21 and 40 but it is as big as both of those lenses put together or bigger. Nice lens though. I will do some testing .

I think it looks about like what I expected. I saw a photo of it next to a FA31 once, so I knew it was bigger than that. Someone in another thread said they already returned theirs because it was "very" soft in the corners under all circumstances. What do you think about that?

I am finding it soft on the left side especially which is concerning. So far I have been shooting handheld but I am not having that issue with other lenses...... Will have to drag out the tripod. I just checked AF compared to the 16-50 and it seems to be about the same. Not really any speed difference.
Another pic with the 17-50 Tamron and 16-50 Pentax....

Gary:

Let us see the difference in images taken with this new lens vs. the DA*16-50 at the same focal length(s)!

Congrats on the new purchase.

Btw, you should never admit to being the first to have any new piece of gear. You will be inundated with requests for every conceivable type of sample.

Well....... I have already packed it back up to return. It is soft on the left edge and I just cant ride that horse. I think the 16-50 will be the lens for me. For myself, its size kind of takes away from the allure of the limiteds. That and the fact that it is F4 at the long end takes away from some excitement for myself. If it were smaller, I would be much happier but since the 16-50 is here and is a good copy so far, I will stick with that. I have the focal range covered quite well.

Make sure they know it has a problem so they don't put it back on the shelf, with my luck it will be waiting for me Good luck with the winnowing, you have several good lenses in that range. I want WR, would like DC, and don't need f/2.x aperture too often so it still sounds good to me - until I learn more about the roadmap ~17-85 of course

Well, shoot, that's 0 for 2. I won't keep mine if it turns out to be soft, either. Size is fine with me, though.

Sort of off topic, but what are your impressions between the Tamron 17-50 and Pentax 16-50 lens?
