Which Helios Lens can fit in K-mount ?

I am willing to buy a helios lens, And as i am living in Egypt it is not easy to find adapters for Pentax and i have heard that some Helios Zenit lenses can fit in Pentax without the need of an Adapter, and its confusing to see many type of f2 helios lenses 42M, 44M, 44M-4 .. etc.

So, Which Helios Lenses can Fit in K-30 "K-Mount" without the need of an adaptor?

Thanks a lot,

As long as they have an m42 thread mount, you can use an m42 adapter on a k-mount body.

The only Helios that 44 that I know of has the K mount is the 44K-4. I own it and it is quite wonderful.

There are several other less famed lenses under the Helios brand that are said to be quite good and some even have a K mount like 77K-4 and some other ones that are very rare and you probably won't find them to be honest.

I assume you are talking about the Helios 44 and its numerous variants and not the Helios 40-2 and other of the many lenses that bear the Helios name.

If so, the Helios 44K-4 is the only one that is available in K-mount. Any of the M42 Helios 44 variants can be adapted, but be aware that almost all of the auto-aperture models (Helios 44M and Helios 44M-n) lack a A/M switch and require minor surgery to convert the aperture to full-time manual. The sole exception is the Helios 44M. All of the preset aperture models can be adapted, but be aware that there is a subset of the Helios 44-3 line that has clearance problems between the focus ring and most camera bodies that requires some machining/grinding down in order to get a clean mount.

Are we confused yet?

If you are interested in other Helios K-mount lenses, they are listed on this Wikipedia entry:

Helios (lens brand) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (not a complete listing...not even close)

In regards to the Helios name...It is not a brand per se. It is a lens series with many different focal lengths and available in several different mounts and made by several different manufacturing entities in various places in the countries of the former Soviet Union. I have a Helios 44M 58/2 (M42) and a Helios 103 53/1.8 in Contax/Kiev mount and like them both.

I am sorry that my comment (above) was ambiguous. I have edited it for clarity. The Helios 44M with A/M switch will function on your K-30 with an appropriate M42/K-mount adapter in the same way as Asahi/Pentax M42 lenses.

I got the 77K-4 and I can also recommend it! But Pablom is right, these versions are much rarer (and mostly more expensive) than m42, you might have more chances to get a good M42 adapter than to find a K-Helios.

44k-4 or 77k-4, and as per the Wikipedia, Helios 70 too (never came across any Helios 70 though)

btw, while I enjoyed Helios, I personally feel Pentax equivalent (55/1.8 or 50/1.7) would be cheaper and better compared to hunting K mount Helios.

Asahi replaced the 58mm with 55mm very early on. The 2 pre-set 58mm Takumars command a premium price.

They abandoned 55mm in 1976 opting instead for the M50/2 & M50/1.7. The 55/2 remaining the K1000 kit lens for a while before being replaced by the M50/2.

Although close in focal lenght they are very different animals and for the price they sell it is not surprising that many own and use both.
