HD DA Lim 20-40 for testing

Dear colleagues, just now I have received the Lim 20-40 (but sample not production) for the testing. I can compare it to the DA* 2.8/16-50, DA 2.8/14 and Sigma 3.5/10-20.
I will be very grateful to everybody who has any ideas for the testing process.

Make sure the lens is the *only* variable when making comparison images. ie use a tripod.

Take pictures of multiple types of subjects:

Brick walls
Testing images (like the ISO images used by Imaging Resources)
Real life scenes - buildings, city streets where you can see distortion, field curvature, etc
Scenes with small detail like trees, animals
Couple of people pictures - full body, half body portraits
Night scenes with large and small aperture - to see how light sources fare on the lens.

I'd prefer a few real-life pics taken at various apertures and focal lengths, uploaded full-sized (raws, perhaps) somewhere.

The DA*16-50 would be best. Covers the same range, and is just as fast. It has great microcontrast performance and color rendition, but lacks a bit in the sharpness. Also, there is a lot of people who is aware of the DA*16-50's performance vs other lenses like the Sigma/Tamron 17-50, the DA 16-45, and the DA 18-135, so by comparing it vs the DA*16-50 you will provide a lot more information that way.

The DA* 2.8/16-50! I think the primes are very different, and probably should give better results at that focal length. With the DA*, it will be a close call!

I agree. I am always of the view that I'd rather see photographs than test pics. A lens can test brilliantly but produce boring-ass photos. There's a lot to be said for Pentax's unquantifiable pixie dust.

Ok. Please, tell me what is better - RAW or JPEG, on which settings (I will use Lightroom), which site or service is passed for the upload the full size pictures.
This night I have shoot a railroad station for the starting. Dark sky, snow, railcars with signatures, very bright spot lights on the station. ISO settings - 800 and 1600, f=20 mm only (for the starting).
I should say that (unfortunately for me) the Lim 20-40 in this situation is more sharper and has much-much more contrast as my DA* 16-50 when both are wide open. The difference is very strong!
I did shoot about 30 pictures and this is my first opinion.

But! But when I tried to shoot the screen of my laptop the things are absolutely different! This time the 16-50 pictures (wide open, f=20 mm) are much-much sharper as 20-40. This weekend I will upload the pictures here, sorry, there is a deep night in Moscow now.
May be together we will understand which lens is better.

From those three lenses, only the 16-50 overlaps in range with the 20-40. I would suggest testing them with equivalent settings. So don't test the 16-50 at 40mm and f/2.8, because the 20-40 can't do that. Consider doing flare tests, as the 16-50 doesn't seem to cope to well with that.

The premise (at least, my premise) will be that the 20-40mm is superior, because it has less range, is slower, and costs the same (here in The Netherlands anyway). Therefore it has to beat the 16-50; anything else would be disappointing.

I think the general feeling is that the 20-40 should offer prime-like quality. So also test for things like corner sharpness at max. aperture, distortion, CA, falloff etc etc.
