New images with DA* 300mm f4

I've just uploaded some photo's taken with my new DA* 300mm, just follow the Most Recent link at http://srmillerphotogallery.mysite.orange.co.uk/ .
I'm more than happy with the results (it was a dull drizzly day), what do you think?

You are probably he first to post any images with this lens, at least I haven' seen any in dpreview, flickr. Stunning shots, hopefully someone can test it against the sigma 100-300 F4 to see how much better the DA* is. Thanks for posting these.

It should destroy the zoom.

How's the weight/balance of the lens? Were those handheld? Looks very nice. I could have used a 300mm high contrast lens last week for some art shots of the falls.

I've just sold my Sigma 100-300mm F4, don't get me wrong the Sigma is a very good lens, it's just that I take mainly wildlife shots and found that 95% of my photo's were taken at 300mm.

I decided to go for the prime hoping that I'd be more successful using it with my Kenko 1.5X and Pentax 1.7X converters. My first impressions are I think I've made the right decision. The weather hasn't been kind but I've managed a couple of shots with the Kenko (SDM still works!) and they look pretty good, I'll be trying to get some more test shots in soon.

Are any of the shots taken with a teleconverter? Are the images cropped at all? Thanks for the link and the info. I desperately want to get this lens and would like to do so before my upcoming trip.

Weight/balance with K10D is great. Thats another reason I went for this lens, it's smaller and lighter than the Sigma 100-300 F4 that i had.
Yes they were all hand held with SR.

Here's one taken with the 1.7X Pentax converter. It was a very dull day so I had to go to ISO400 F6.7(wide open) 1/250th sec. Hand-held with SR set to 500mm.

Great shots mille19 For a grey day they really look good. I'm really close to a decision on this one. I've got a tamron 300mm f2.8 and it's a lot to lug around and I usually stop down to 5.6 on it anyways especially with a TC.

So, were all the other shots (birds, reptiles, insects and the like) in your website taken with the sigma 100-300 F4, thanks. You have some spectacular shots there. I really wanted the DA* 300mm and I couldn't wait any longer and bought the Sigma 100-300 F4 last week. If the prime is SIGNIFICANTLY better then I will switch, thus the question. Thanks.

May be I can even return the zoom.

Anyhow, curious to know whether the rest of your shots were taken with the sigma zoom.

Thanks.
