Mine is in pieces right now too! Well just two pieces, but broken none the less. It just came apart in my hand one day. It's not even two years old. I have never had a lens just fall apart like this before. It's my favorite lens!

How did yours come to be in pieces?
That's not good. I've got this lens (or it's no longer produced 1.7 cousin) on my lens radar (and Christmas wish list). Is this normal or just a weird conicidence? Maybe I should go for the 43 instead...

Heather

Sometimes it's a bit long for the shots I usually take, but it redeems itself by being so sharp.

I'll be perfectly honest with you all, this lens is not in my "love it" category. Maybe because I have not used it enough (rarely actually), or maybe due to the fact that I always look for "closer focus"...

I will attach it to the camera tomorrow, and leave it on for 1 full week, see if can develop a warmer feeling toward it

Few from those few times I've used it (all wide open):

These are excellent shots, D.! You could have easily slipped those into the Nokton thread without anyone noticing.

I am wondering the same too about whether or not is was a fluke. I really miss that lens! I have every intention of replacing it if Pentax can not fix it. I miss the super sharp clarity I got with it. I have the 40 2.8 limited that I am using while it's gone and while this is a nice lens it just does not compare to the 50's sharpness. I will I could have it's solid construction with the 50 1.4!

Update on my broken 50 1.4

Hi all,

Just thought I'd update on my broken 50. I got my estimate yesterday from Pentax. $83.00 to fix it. I'm really missing it despite having purchased the 40mm so I'm going to go for it. Hopefully I'll have it back soon and it will be good as new!

I agree with the quality of D's shots - but the exif would give it away, heh

This is very nice, Ben.
Could you please tell me, Ben? IS this straight from camera?
If not what PP did you do to it?

I have the older brother F 50mm/1.4
They all are great siblings.

Thanks,
Yes it is straight from the camera. Shot in RAW.

Had my FA 50/1.4 for about 2 weeks... it hasn't left my K20D since... here are a couple of wide-open portraits I did of my band mates while waiting our turn in a dark smoky bar... shot at ISO 2000 if I'm not mistaken. (It was that dark!)
