I don't have the lens for a long time and just getting familiar with it, but I have fallen in love with it already. Just a pity that it has no Quick-Shift. But never mind - for the price... Here is a sample from the day before yesterday.

I love the lens. It is my go-to prime for portraits and nigh time pictures. And I keep forgetting to use it more in daytime as it has rich color and bokeh

Thoughts on Pentax FA 50 f/1.4 - Hin's Tech Corner

all hand-held test shots

1/30 sec, f/1.6, 50mm, iso 800,

1/40 sec, f/2.8, 50mm, iso 800

1/20sec, f/2.0, 50mm, iso 400, +1/3 Ev

1/25 sec, f/2.0, 50mm, iso 200, -1/3 Ev

Thanks,
Hin

Yes. Yes we are. For the money, probably the best AF Pentax prime. By that, I mean that it's the cheapest and still kicks arse

Thanks. However it was not my lighting, it was my interpretation of the natural daylight. It was high key metering. It was window light.

Thanks
Ben

I have had this lens pre-ordered for over a month. The supplier just notified me yesterday that they came into stock (through Pentax Canada, I am assuming) Friday. I should have my 50mm f1.4 in my hands by Thursday! I believe it is a classic and seeing the results here I know I won't regret the purchase.

Kindly help!!

Hello fellow Pentax users,

First of all, thanks for the great site and info. After going through various forums and reading innumerable reviews, I recently purchased an FA 50mm f1.4. The pictures you have here in this 50mm thread is amazing! I purchased it from Stockholm about a week back and brought it back to Dubai. There are no problems indoors, but when i shoot outdoors, there are major purple fringing issues. Please check the photos and let me know your comments. Is this lens defective?

Wow. Can't say I have noticed this with my copy. Mind you, I have only used the lens 3 times since I bought it. The FA 50 f/1.4 beats my el cheapo Canon 50 f/1.8 MK II hands down in every aspect.

Here are a few more examples.

Wow.. clearly you have overexpose your photo and using the lens wide open at f1.4, try step down abit to f2 or so, then the purple fringing should be gone or at least not that crazy (pentax lens always has purple fringing when you shoot ur picture with big different of contrast at wide open.)

Stop it down to f2.8 or so and see how it looks. I would just say you found the perfect situation to induce PF. High contrast, wide open shot.
