vivitar 28 2.8 vmc

I have vivitar 28mm 2.8 auto vmc version, that is not present in the lens database.

Is this lens worth keeping? I aim for good IQ and my other lenses are pentax-k 50mm 1.4 and pentax-k 135mm 2.5 and i need 28mm that is at similar level (but doesn't have to be so light)

There are a lot of different Vivitar 28mm f2.8s, made by many different optical manufacturers. The serial number is an indicator of who made it, what are the first two digits?

It is odd that it says VMC, which is Vivitar Multi Coating, that is usually reserved for their higher end lenses like the Series 1s. The only Series 1 28mm I know of is the Tokina made 28mm f1.9.

Since you have it and there is always sample variation between otherwise identical lenses, you're really the best to judge whether or not it is a keeper.

The 9 indicates a Cosina made lens.

A quick search turned up this thread where pentagor has one under the Cosina name that he likes.

There are a few pictures of his lens there, so you can see if it matches yours. Vivitar never made their own lenses, though the did design the Series 1s, you can usually find identical stuff under other brands.

If it is identical to the one from that site, I don't think it is a match for pentagor's, the distance scale is different. It appears to be a match for the Cosinon-W 28mm f2.8.

This reviewer didn't love his:
