A bag of "camera stuff" found at a garage sale. It was unclaimed lost and found at a campground. My daughter found it and grabbed it for me. $5 got a Super Tak 28/3.5, a genuine Pentax M42-K mount adapter, an A50/2 lens, 2 Sunpak flashes, a handheld light meter, and about 20 various filters. Other than some dust, all was in very good shape. A lot of it I probably won't ever use, especially the filters which were mostly for film but the Tak alone was worth far more. The A 50/2 isn't as good as some other 50mm options but it isn't bad either.

Probably the best deal I ever got on these forums was a Sigma 100-300 f/4 for $600, but I recently snagged a Sigma 10-20 and 12-24 for $225 off evilBay.
I never get deals on Pentax-branded lenses... sigh.

Noooooo.

I sold the 50/1.2 to KEH because I already two 50/1.2 lenses. One was the premium model.

Do you think the Canon red ring 85/1.2 is worth $125 I paid? How about the red ring 135/2?

My best so far was a SF1 kit that included like new F50/1.7,F28/2.8,F70-210/4-5.6 and a nice SF1 body with a spare battery for $200. I bet that you guys have done much better then that.
FA 50 f1.4 for $15 attached to a Pentax MF A3000 camera. I had to fix the filter threads on the lens, but it works fine to this day.

I gave the A3000 to a friend, and after replacing the missing film wind lever, it worked fine as well.

I bought 2 F 50 f1.7 lenses at different times for $40 each attached to film cameras.

These days, good deals are harder to come by as everyone checks EBay to see what the going price might be before they sell any old gear.

Since I already have way too much ebay gear, I feel it is safe to reveal my secret. I bid on old camera bags full of stuff. Never more than $40. The auctions that have only one dark, blurry picture and almost no description. Nine out of ten of these are people dumping their crap gear, so you have to know what to look for. A camera bag that cost over $100 new in 1985 is a good starting place. A real old camera bag has filters and torn-off film box flaps and camera service paperwork and half a set of step-up adapters, among other junk. A dumper will have one good looking camera with a "sucker" lens (50mm 1.x) and a couple crap zooms nobody would buy. If I can't be 90% certain that something in that bag is worth more than $40, I don't bid. If I get outbid, they just saved me $40. Almost all of my K & M bodies and A & M-lenses were acquired this way. I can't even estimate their actual cost per item. It averages about $10 per pound for working equipment.

I feel a little sheepish wading in here, but I have had some amazing luck finding really rare/valuable stuff for extremely cheap at flea markets, etc

Minolta camera with pan+tilt bellows, 55mm f/1.2, and 85mm f/2, and micro Bellows 12.5 mm lens - $100!

Box w/3 Zeiss (Contax) T* 50mm f/1.7 + 2 adaptall lenses - $50!

Box with 4 Tokina AT-X 28-70mm lenses + 1 sigma 50mm macro (all Maxxum mount) - $40!

Taylor Hobson cinema lens (approximately $1500) - bought for $100!

But best of all - 100 y/o, $1000 Dallmeyer Cinema Lens - FREE, thrown in the bottom of a box of junk that I didn't know had any camera gear in it.

Best Pentax deal was probably Pentax MX (black) plus Pentax-K 50mm f/1.2 and Pentax-K 105mm f/2.8 - $100
Do not feel sheepish. You are in a good place for flea markets.
Here in Los Angeles, flea markets are fashion botiques.
Even crap camera gear fetches a high price for its decorative properties.
I live in a film-industry city and I have to buy my camera gear from New York.

Best deal must be a mint second hand copy of the F1.7x AF converter, that I bought for the ridiculously low price of 75 EUR. A friend of mine let me know it was on offer at a large B&M store in Holland, so I called to reserve it and spent most of a Saturday driving up there and back home (which is about 6 hours in the car, qualifying as a really long drive for our standards). Good thing I have a company car! I did take the opportunity to also buy a new Manfrotto tripod+head they had on offer at a considerable discount. But nothing like the F1.7x AF converter.

I ended up not using the converter much, since I found my old Tamron 1.4x more practical. 2 or 3 years later I sold it at the then going price. Needless to say this was at a considerable profit (don't remember how much exactly). I didn't feel too bad about this, since, regardless of the profit, the price I got was still at the lower end of the spectrum.

My previous best deal was superceded yesterday.

From left to right:
SMC Takumar 35mm f3.5
Macro-Takumar 50mm f4 (the 1:1 preset version)
Super Takumar 105mm f2.8
Hanimex 55-200mm something something...
SMC Takumar 200mm f4
Super Takumar 300mm f4
And on the Spotmatic is a S-M-C Takumar 50mm f1.4

All are slightly dusty with some light fungus, which should hopefully clean up easily with some CLA lovin'.
$80.00 for the lot.
Below is the classified ad I fluked seeing just 6 minutes after being posted. My heart just about stopped and I called the number after thinking about it for a nanosecond.

Excellent find! Good on ya for jumping on the ad.

The poor little Hanimex must feel like an outcast amongst the Takumars.
