Some thought that the cost was not justifying the quality, with early reports indicating some dissatisfaction with softness, especially at 20mm, and with f4 at 40mm. Others thought that the large, heavy Sigma 18-35 f1.8 blew its doors off. Later reports show some have come to really like this lens, and the cost is worth it for them. I'm feeling at this time that the IQ is OK for me. This lens does seem to have to fit your niche.
For me, it has to displace the FA 20-35 that is currently hogging my K-5. Therefore my interest in the comparison. WR and light weight are important for me (hiking). I'm still undecided on the 20-40, and FF plays into it, as it is not FF. Ricoh's future product rollout is stalling my equipment acquisition at this time, so I'm still gathering information on lens and cameras.
