LBA srikes again!

So, I just bought a PZ-10 with a cheap-o flash, a FA 28-80 3.5-4.7 (power zoom),a FA 100-300 4.5-5.6 (power zoom), and a Quantaray 2x TC for 80 bucks. Mainly bought it for the lenses, these two lenses seem to have a pretty poor reputation but I just wanted to test them out.

I really like the powerzoom thing on my K10. On the 100-300, the K10's AF motor is so powerful I'm a little afraid it might cause too much wear on the gears and stuff in the lens! The 28-80 isn't in the best of conditions, but we'll see what we can get out of it.

Anybody here have experience with either of these lenses?

I have the SMC FA 28-80 f/3.5-4.7 power zoom, my thoughts are mostly positive on the power zoom for the price, range, good color and contrast.

Wow, that's an amazing shot. The copy I got is not really in good condition, but I'm doing some short-distance-to-subject tests right now to see how it stacks up to the sigma 28-80 HF, DA 18-55, FA 50, DA 50-200, and FA 20-35 (in the focal lengths where they overlap).

Looks like that red car is just barely clearing the tracks.

Few more test shots that I like

I mess up some pp, hence the weird color

The lens work reasonably well in both of my K100D and Pentax pz-1 film body.

Thanks,
Hin

Those are some really nice shots Hin. I'm still a little unsure about mine (it's late and my brain is having a hard time interpreting all the test shots I took). I do know that the 100-300 is super soft at 300 until f/9.5, where it becomes decent again. but, no surprise here, the K 200 f/2.5 outdoes the FA 100-300, DA 50-200, and Sigma 100-300 (all at 200mm) at any aperture. I've not realized how nice of a lens this is until now.

I got the obligatory photo's of the lenses themselves done tonight, I don't have any (interesting) first-shot photos due to the late hour. The last is my current collection of Pentax glass. I think I might start collecting the PowerZoom lenses...

First, the FA 28-80 f/3.5-4.7

Next, the FA 100-300 f/4.5-5.6

And last, my current humble collection of Pentax glass

A good photographer is a good photographer is a good photographer...

I've come to the realization that Hinman can make ANY lens look good! In fact, I'm going to start avoiding his posts so I don't end up with all these lenses.
