Lenses

After looking a hundreds of images, I decided to go with primes. So far I have procured a Takumar SMC 135/2.5, Takumar SMC 200/4 (both M42) & a Tamron Adaptall SP 300/2.8 with the 1.4X & 2x multipliers. Im still waiting on the M42-K adapters but have the 300 mounted . I really wasnt prepared for the weight of this dude but after a couple days Ive started to get accustomed to it. My Walmart tripod is a bit over loaded also.. Here is a pic of Frankie with the 300, handheld with SR on (shiver reduction, pretty cold here) .. A few more pics here Flickr: wildherre's photos tagged with frankie wildherre

Great portrait wildherre! That could easily go on a "Lab" calendar!

That is a very nice photo. The black labs can be hard to take photos of. It looks like you got a shallow DOF. What f/ did you have.

Cheers

This is a great clean image. The fur is separated nicely seen in the shot and the colour is just right for the temperature.

I couldn't aggree with you more. Primes are fun with their own individual strength and weakness that take time to get to know them well. Images tend to be sharper with better colour rendition. We would have to be creative and think outside the box.

I remembered your post regarding Tamron 300mm f2.8 earlier on. I lost that auction too. Actually I gave up on that one as it was an older version that does not have circular shutter blades - hence pentagon bokeh...

Cheers

Beautiful and stunning. There is an aspect to it that is captivating. I want to keep looking into his eyes. Well done.

Was the background that white, or was it Photoshop?

I would also stop down 2 stops or so, try to get the nose and a bit more of his body in focus. The eyes look nice and sharp!
