Which XX-70 mm 2.8 lens do you use

My son is getting married in August in the evening and this will be a outdoor/indoor wedding and reception, I'm thingking that I need some faster zoom (LBA). The question is which one? The sig 24-70 and the tamy 28-75 both have good reviews on the sites that I have looked at, Buddha Jones mentioned the 28-70 FA* available at B&H.

Cost is always a concern, but quality out weighs cost when and if the funds are available. My daddy always tought me to buy the best tool I can afford, but the most expensive tool is not always the best.

I don't have the best kit in town but it's not bad.

K10D, sig 10-20, tam 18-250, pen 31mm, pen 50mm 1.4, sig 70mm macro, sig 50-500mm, pen 360 flash.

What do recommend?

Thanks for your time.

John.

I finished up a studio course recently and did two model shoots. The first one I used primes (31, 50 and 77). The second I was more pragmatic and used the Tamron 28-75. The photos from the Tamron are fantastic - perfectly sharp printed at 8x10 (I printed about 8 photos from the course at that size). I would certainly recommend it for the 'action' shots and maybe switch to the 31mm/Sigma 70mm for more posed shots (in case they want to print REALLY big).

I don't have any experience with the Sigma 24-70 so I cannot comment on that.

tamron 28-75 f2.8 Di

I use the tamron 28-75

It is rated by many as the best IQ in its class.

I didn't worry too much about the gap between my Sigma 10-20 and this lens as I had an FA-J 18-35, that came with my *istD

Some people don't want to carry a 4th lens, and they might worry about the gap. but on my last vacation, I never used my 18-35. I was eitehr ok with my 10-20 or OK with my 28-75. the gap between 20 and 28 mm seems to be a no man's land

ps, when I say 4 lenses I should point out I have aa 70-200 plus a 1.4 and 2x TC to go beyond 75mm

I want to thank you both for your reply's, It looks like a good fit. I really want the Pentax 17-70 but in a 2.8 version weather sealed but unfortunatly that is not an option. Looking foward to both sig and tamy delivering their 70-200 2.8 versions of the new lens.

My wife is going to hang me out to dry if I don't quit with the LBA.

Have a good day and thanks for your time.

John

My constant aperture zoom of choice is the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG.

It's not the single greatest lens in the world, but I've yet to find a significantly better lens to fit my needs.

That said, lately I've been using my DA 40 Limited and DA 70 Limited more than my Sigma. I was thinking about getting the DA 21, but I've decided to wait until the DA 15 Limited comes out.
