Wait for DA* or...

Hi, my original plan was to go for DA* 16-50mm along with 50-135mm but those reviews about QC are scaring me. My another option is to go for Sigma 28-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8
Which route seems to be a smarter move?? I just wanted to get some opinions from you guys before I go for it.

DA*
- gets total of $150 rebate from student discount
- has a wider end potential
- Its DA*!!!
- lacks QC
- weather seal, which I don't care that much... maybe
- both lens have SDM

Sigma
- no rebate, but total cost will be slightly cheaper than DA*
- lacks wider end potential
- heavy and bulkier but has significantly longer range
- I like the IF(internal focus)
- only 70-200mm has HSM

I'm going back to Japan this summer with my family for almost 2 month starting this May and would love to have a complete gear before then. My main shots will be family portrait, landscape, and inside building. Will sigma's 28mm wideness be enough for taking pictures inside building?? or should I just pray to god and buy DA* 16-50mm?

could you live with a 28 (effective 42) as your widest view? I couldn't...

What nostatic said. I was dinking around with a 28-80 today on my K10 and really missed the wide angle. no, the 28 will not be wide enough for buildings or landscapes in my experience.

If you have a shop where you can take a look at the actual lens you will be perchasing, I would go ahead and get the 16-50. do some quick tests at the store (a search on the forums should yield some good testing methods) before you buy it, and if something slips by you there you have a physical place you can return it to.

You could also rent a 16-50 from HERE, and then if it's a keeper, buy it. It will come directly from B&H or Adorama new, since Barry is building his Pentax fleet as we speak.
