OFFICIAL: Sigma 8-16mm no longer available for Pentax Mount

There was some discrepancy in the reviews database about the availability of the Sigma 8-16mm (Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database)

PentaxForums correctly has it listed as a Legacy Zoom under the Third-Party Lens Database...

I checked with Sigma directly and this is their response:

Yes, unfortunately we are no longer making the the 8-16mm in Pentax mount and we do not have any in stock. I apologize for the inconvenience.

This really bites. We have this lens but everyone should get one, it's that good.

It's hard to believe there wasn't enough sales volume to continue manufacturing this lens. Poor marketing on Sigma's part. The most advanced APS-C DSRL is made by Pentax.

I did my part -- I bought one! Guess I'll make sure I keep it if it is going to become scarce...

Me too. I really like this lens - very versatile and great IQ.

For a Sigma it is somewhat unusual as it's zoom ring rotates in the right direction, i.e. "Pentax" direction, unlike the other Sigmas I have.

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm pretty sure we will see a reincarnation of this lens in Sigma's new "Art" or "Contemporary" line, and chances are that it might be even better optically than its predecessor

Why? It's still selling in the other mounts, you know. It hasn't been discontinued accross the range.

Tamron, Tokina, Zeiss ... gone... and now Sigma? A real shame.

Pentax is such a strong APS-C platform, ideal for the Sigma DC (APS-C) lenses. It worries me that Sigma are discontinuing such an iconic APS-C lens in the K-mount. I hope Sigma don't change their minds about releasing that other iconic APS-C lens, the 18-35/1.8, in K mount too.

Did they give any reason for the discontinuation?

Not quite;
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/243556-3rd-...available.html
Still 38 zooms and 24 primes from 3rd party makers, including Zeiss, Tamron, Samyang and Sigma. Tokina has stopped all Pentax mounts, however.
Things don't change overnight, but sometimes they do change. Sigma announced the 18-35mm for Pentax at first, withdrew it, now it's back.
Maybe the 3rd party support will get worse before it gets better?
In the meantime, nearly one hundred current lenses available, from Pentax and the combined 3rd party makers.
And more legacy lenses than anyone!

Don't know, I suppose all current Sigma lenses will re-appear in the same or updated form in the new C/A/S line sooner or later. AFAIK the different mount versions are manufactured in batches, and it might just be the case that the K-mount 8-16 is sold out currently (while the other mounts are still in stock), and maybe they won't make another batch of the old version because a new, updated version is already in the pipeline.
