Hi,
I am looking at purchasing a Tamron AF SP 172E 90mm F/2.8 Macro 1:1 at a very good price, however, from what I can tell it isn't K mount compatible as is. My questions is what adapter is needed for this lens to work with my K-30 ?

Thanks for the assistance.

That lens is available in a variety of mounts, including the Pentax mount. You'll need to get the Pentax version if you want it to work with your K-30. It is also available new:

It has to be K-mount. Sometimes it only says "For Pentax" on the box.
If you are buying used, make sure you see the mount. If you are buying from a store, the salespeople should be able to help you. Here is a store that sells this lens. There is also B&H - if you use one of these two stores, use the forum referral code

That is a very popular lens, good luck

Thanks Na Horuk. I contacted the seller asking them what mount the lens is for. Here is a link to the picture of the mount. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamron-AF-SP-172E-90mm-F-2-8-Macro-1-1-Lens-/201020537296

Or get the Tamron adaptall-2 SP 90mm lens (manual focus) and a Pentax adapter (if a PKA adapter it has the aperture A setting). I have several of the adaptall-2 lenses --nice also because you can use on almost any camera (e.g., in my case Nikon and Pentax), and in some cases an almost unique lens (e.g., 350mm f5.6 mirror lens of excellent quality). The site for more info. is www.adaptall-2.org

There are two versions of Adaptall-2 SP 90 Macro. The earlier 52B model is limited to 1:2 macro. For 1:1 it requires the matched 01F or other high quality 2x teleconverter with a 1 stop decrease in speed.

The 72B model features native 1:1

Hi all,
Just to confirm that the lens I specified previously isn't a pentax k mount could y'all check these pictures. The seller posted three additional photos that are more clear and zoomed in on the mount.

Well I went ahead and bid on the lens... It is less than $15 and comes with free shipping. I reread DMS post about the adaptal lens after the fact. I guess I had a brain lapse. Anyway, just to clarify since it isn't adaptal is there any way of mounting it with a Tamron adapter?

Do you plan on using it just for macro? If so, get an adapter without glass and use that, it will work like a short extension tube. That lens is an older one that actually has an aperture ring, so it will be usable, but your viewfinder is going to be really dark at small apertures.

Something like this:

There was a recent post by the individual who came up with the following adapter for Nikon/other lens to Pentax K mount (dslrs such as K-x, but not WR models), so there is one path to use it. (Although some of the details sound a bit problematic--waiting the hear some feedback here.) adaptist.weebly.com/pentax-k-multi-mount.htmlse

And there are adapters w/ glass that can be removed (as already mentioned). And people have attached pre-AI nikon lenses to Kmounts apparently w/o harm (and the lens you got may be similar in this way).

But unless one is very experienced in adapting lenses the most realistic answer is no it is not useful for a Pentax dslr.
