Sigma 50-500 third party tripod collar?

does such a beast exist as a third party tripod collar that can fit the sigma 50-500?

there's nothing wrong with mine but it does stick out a bit and is a pain to fit in a bag I have. If I could get a collar with a shorter neck out of the bottom tripod mount that would be jake. from what I can see it is approximately 85mm in diameter so quite a few of the chinese knocks for canon won't work because they have an inner diameter of 81mm

could I cheat and use an 81mm ring. get a longer screw and then line it with felt for a firm grip? can anyone with calipers assist with this.

on the Sigma, could you measure where the mount ring actually goes?

AND

measure the bit behind it, where the top clear plastic fnumber range opening is, that's thinner, maybe 81mm? which would be ideal. line with felt and it's bob on

Hi Lancer,

You might try contacting Sigma CS. They make a number of tripod collars that fit a number of different model lenses. For example, my EX 100-300 f4, EX 300 f2.8, and EX 180 f3.5 macro all take the same tripod collar, and I know there's a long foot collar that fits these three also. They might make a shorter neck/shorter foot collar that will work.

The area behind the tripod mount ring appears to be 84mm in diameter.

How do you remove the tripod collar to see what the actual diameter is at that spot?
Mine doesn't come off, the lock knob doesn't release all the way.

My be easier to get a different bag.

the mount ring rotates and then slides back off the back of the lens. the lens body has a couple of metal studs that fit inside the collar to help keep it in place.

Thanks for the tip.
I do show the main collar area is 85mm.
The next one with the focus window is just under 84mm.
The area next to the camera mount is just under 74mm.

I've been looking for someone that sells tripod collars by SIZE for a very long time. Surely someone must make the damn things in 1mm increments?
