of course Canon has bigger problems with CA....it is an f1.2 lens.
I'll point out that even at f/2 it still has issues with CA and LoCa - which at that aperture it doesn't fare better, or any worse than the FA77 limited.

FA85/1.4 to Canon 85/1.2 please
No contest there - the FA*85mm f/1.4 is considerably sharper in the corners than the Canon L lens. You know, there is a reason why Canon photographers mutilate FA*85's so they can be used on their cameras.

I have the both. For travel - I use DA70.
Just because of of size and weight.
Is that so much size difference between both the lens?

I haven't used DA70, but I can wholeheartedly recommend FA77, and you will always remain curious about FA77 if you buy DA70

The FA is $800 (Aust) and the HD DA is $$640.... so not much in it now.......

I was hoping to have a second smaller kit for future holidays etc (15,21,40 and 70/77). I'll probably go for the 77 to satisfy the itch.
The hoods are mainly what make the FA Limiteds larger than the DA Limiteds. Even with the hoods the FAs are very compact lenses.

The nice thing about choosing the FA 77 is you won't be able to hold back from getting the 43 and 31 after.

I think the hoods are what make the DA limiteds larger. The DA 70 isn't much bigger than the DA40 without the hood -- still pretty much a pancake. The FA 70 is probably twice it's size -- still really compact, but quite a bit bigger.

Yes, you have a good point as well. I couldn't find a picture of the lenses without the hoods, but if the OP wants compact lenses I think any of the Limiteds would fit in that category, FA or DA.

Here's a photo with hoods, not mine, from another thread here discussing Limiteds:

I would agree with this wholeheartedly... Until you've shot with one for a length of time (which I've yet to do, I own the 31 and 43) you'll always be stuck in the mystique that surrounds it, and for arguably very good reason. The 77 will certainly not be depreciating any time soon if ever, so if you've the scratch, I would get both and decide for yourself.

The FA77 excels at portraiture:

Pentax K5IIs with the SMCP-FA77mm f/1.8 Limited - wireless AF540FGZ with Honl 1/4 CTO gel.
-ISO 80 f/2.8 1/180th - 2 stop ND used to reduce ambient light levels.

yes this has been seen before, and in many cases the DA70 was promptly sold.

I think this question would be more difficult if someone was looking at a used DA70 lens ($350-400). A question was asked in another thread about regrets. Not picking up a DA70 at these used prices might be one although like many in this thread I would like the FA77 more.

the 77 is the best lens I own, and if I could choose only one lens to take on a trip around the world it would be my trusty 77. The rendering, the faster aperture, the beautiful 3D effect, the sharpness, everything. It is simply the lens that I compare all others to. Wish it came in F mount.

I use a third-party metal dome hood (clone of the DA 40 hood) on my FA 43. If/when I shoot the FA 43 on full frame, I'll use the FA hood.
