They talk about a floating element. What is that?
The Zeiss and the K28/2 had floating lens elements, which improved close focusing with less distortion. This was expensive and dropped when the cheaper “M” 28/2 came out. A floating element actually moves when you focus.

The floating elements will give you the 3D look the other Pentax 28mm can’t.

The K28/2 and Distagon 28/2 CY deliver same look.
Zeiss is bigger, but both look like a 100mm and heavy.
I don't have the new Distagon to compare, but prefer the pop/3D rending than more compact A or M lenses.

Both can use with adapter on 5dm2 with mirror up, or A7/r.

Can someone provide a link, or post an example that conclusively demonstrates the K28/2's distinctive "3D look"?

Just curious...

Reading an old manual, I found that the 3D may happen only wide open at very close distance. But my question is, wouldn't that happen with any wide opne lens, especially a wide angle? Look at the Kiron 28/2 for example. That is a wondeful lens, and the price is one fourth or fifth of the others.

In my view this talk about a lens specific "3D-Look" is nonsense.
It depends entirely on the subject/scene and the skills of the photographer.

Hmmmmmmm.... None of these links open for me.... Is there some other way to share their content?

UPDATE: Changed computers (From cheapo Laptop to dedicated photography Desktop with calibrated Monitor) and the links opened to show the images. To me, they look just like nicely executed, but standard issue images taken with a Canon EOS 5D paired to an undetermined (35mm eqiv) lens... I was expecting so see a "3D pop".

Perhaps I do not know what to look for... If you open the links in my sig (below), are there any examples from my collection that are close? What am I missing?

My friend has the K28/2 and I am using the Zeiss 28/2.

The Pentax K28 is a nice lens. The build is good and the IQ is really nice. Too bad my friend does not share much of his photos, if not i would be able to share with you.

I felt the colour tones of the K28 is similiar to the K series but the 3D looks of the K28 is indeed very nice...

I only have pictures of taken with the Zeiss 28.. Zeiss color tones are different from the Pentax K28. It is more vibrant or saturated, not sure how to describe..

I had a K28mm f2 for a while. I think it's a wonderful lens for film. On digital, I think it's good, but not for the price.

Of course, with those model, any lens looks good!!
Really, there must be a reason why the lenses used at the space station cameras are made by Zeiss.
