Alternative to the DA*50-135

Hello,
I have a Pentax 50-135mm. It takes absolutely stunning pictures. However, its SDM is not always up to the task of action shots. I like a small kit, and I typically don't use lenses that are wider than 50mm. Thus, I don't use it often. i was thinking that perhaps it would make sense for me to replace it. My criteria would be: (1) same or close IQ, (2) faster and more reliable focus for shooting more active scenes, and (3) same or close weight/size. I also wouldn't mind a little additional reach.

Thanks in advance as your thoughts are appreciated.....

-LR

If you search the forum you may find an article on how to turn your SDM lens into screw drive. On the new K-3 that would probably make it a much faster focusing lens.....

Then you might want to find a used Sigma 50-150 with HSM, quick and quiet, and a couple have come up for sale on the marketplace here.

Sigma 70-200 HSM OS EX F2.8 is a big heavy lens but is the quickest focusing, that I know of. Very sharp even at F2.8

I own the 50-135mm which Is definitly my favorite lens. the only issue with this lens is the slow focusing speed.

So I bough the Sigma 70-200mm HSM which has been great for action shots and concerts.
The difference I see with the Pentax is :

Bigger and heavier
IQ is close
Non WR

I recommend the Sigma despite the fact that I had to send it back for AF repair 6 weeks after I bought it

Ok. This is helpful. I will look at each of these lenses. I am worried as it seems that the 3rd party vendors are dropping their support of Pentax causing a shortage of options.
