I've usually had tamron over the years, and when I look at a FL that the tamron fits I have no issue going that route but for now OEM works. And I'm sure this list isn't all inclusive but need somewhat of a goal and time frame. I can always add to it GOD knows there is always room for one more lens

Then once you run out of Pentax lenses you want...you buy another system and start adding lenses to that one! No? just me then? ok.

Lol, my wife is a nikonian... I dabbled with cannon but I started with Pentax 30 years ago (k1000) and came back with a k7 now k5 and trying to avoid k3 until it's deeply discounted or it's successor proves gottahavable(diamond rio)...

If the 50mm zone isn't a bad place for you to change lenses you're on a good plan! I'm not a big fan of zooms stopping/starting around 50mm, and Pentax does that a lot. The upcoming ~17-85 might be the answer for me, but the 3rd-party ~28-70mm f/2.8 zooms are calling me. While I'd love a 100WR macro I found the Sigma 105 to do the job for half the price, so I guess I'm half-serious

I went from Pentax film to a Nikon D7000 to a Canon EO-S 70D and now back to a Pentax K-3. By the time I have ALL the Pentax lenses, the other two will have come up with a few new ones.

And that's why I love the list. I have my sights set on the DA*50-135 next. Perhaps we will cross paths on the eBay, selling all our old kit lenses...

Didn't want to start a new thread but how would the DA* 55mm affect my list?

I don't think you could wrong. a beautiful trio in my opinion is the DA*16-50, DA*50-135, and DA*55

the DA*55 is on my top five of favourite Pentax glass.
(FA77, DA*50-135, DA*55, FA43, M 50 1.7)

Are those in order of preference? Because I am looking at the 43 and 55 the 43 is quite a bit cheaper...

Yes. That being said the 43/55 are equal in my eyes. I prefer the faster aperture of the 55 and the focal length of the 55 over the 43. The 43 I like the focus speed and how discrete it is.

Essentially the 43 is great for street the 55 is better for low light and people.

The 77 is perfect for both

All in good time right now I'm wanting a quality first lens, and all on my list fit the bill and exceed my skills, but I have to start somewhere. The 77 is just not in the budget yet...
And right now a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks if I opt for the 43...

The 43 is a better all round lens. I would go with it over the 55. Another alternative is the DA40

Funny I can get the DA40 and 55-300 for less than the 55 and just a smidge over the 43 price...

I would do that. The 40 is a fantastic lens. I find it's not as warm or contrasty as the 43 but the rendering is similar. I haven't done side by side comparisons....but I should

And I'm just a hobbyist doing family activities etc...

Pentax 100mm macro WR
Pentax FA43 limited
Pentax FA77 limited
Pentax 55-300WR (already have 18-55WR)

Once I have these I will add
Pentax 60-250mm
Pentax FA31 limited
Pentax DA15 limited
Those are not hobbyist lenses. An 18-250 is a hobby lens :-)

In this case get an A or M 100/2.8 (non-macro) first. If you like it, then it won't take much convincing to save for the FA77. And you'll get some beautiful photos right now. I believe there's also 1 or 2 older Pentax 85's that may do this for you, but I don't have experience with them (plus they may cost more).

None of your choices are a bad idea though (although I dropped the DA*60-250 and 55-300 in favor of the DA*50-135).

Adam just had a great review of the 55-300WR. I'd say after reading his review if you want to get the DA*60-250 anyway skip the 55-300 WR. The sharpness of the 60-250 is so high even on a K3 it is MUCH sharper upscaled to 300mm than the 55-300 WR at 300mm. Other than the Price I'd say there is no advantage and not buying it will put a nice chunk of money towards the 60-250
