DA 20-40 keeping me with Pentax for now

A lot has been written about the 20-40mm. I have participated in 2 threads about it. Funny thing is that I am at a crossroads as to whether to stay with Pentax. I am driven to move by an interest in different lens options and full frame. I am driven to stay by the amazing K3 body and compactness. While there is a lot of talk about the magic feel of lenses, I find that picture quality is largely driven by quality optics and your RAW development process (especially since many manufacturers use similar sensors). Thus, in testing different lenses for different systems, similar quality lenses produce virtually the same quality image. Consider for example the Sigma 35 A on both pentax and Nikon APC.

Back to the 20-40. I have really grown to appreciate the flexibility of its range. I no longer need to carry the 21 and the 40 (I never did, I just picked one or the other before heading out the door)

Lets see what happens........

So I take it that you have found it either comparable in image quality and performance to the 21 and the 40, or the convenience of having a lens cover both with similar qualities has made it perfect for you?

My wife often keeps the 40 permanently attached while using a neck strap. If the 20-40 causes the cam to be front heavy she would want no parts of it.

I don't find it front heavy. I am actually comparing it to the fa31. At a given aperture, the FA is sharper, but it is probably not noticeable except for really large prints. Image wise, other than sharpness, I find that the 20-40 is either equal or better. It is clearly superior to the FA for CA, fringing, etc. Its also quieter. The only thing I would miss in the FA is the bokeh look of the wider apertures (1.8, 2.2, 2.4)
