Vivitar 28/2.8 Auto Wide Angle

Hello everybody!
This is my first post here, even tough I've been reading your wonderful site for quite a while now.
Anyway, I'm looking for prime wide angle lenses to buy for my ME Super, and I've found this one for roughly 70$. Is it worth the money?
I'm asking since I can't find the review on that particular model, it says Auto Wide Angle (it is also 49mm in diameter). Can somebody give me more information or suggest better lens for the money? I've also found Pentax SMC-M 28/2.8 for 90$ and Pentax SMC-A 24/2.8 for 160$. Are these better investments than Vivitar (I'm asking since I'm on a budget).
Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't consider any Vivitar 28mm f2.8 to be worth that much. Most are selling in the $40 or less range, depending on who makes them. The close focus variant might bring $60. The first two digits of the serial number tell you who made them.

I think the price of the Pentax M 28mm f2.8 is a little high too, they usually sell more in the $60 range. I have one and like it a lot.

The price of the Pentax A 24mm f2.8 is pretty good as long as it is in good condition.

You gotta be patient when you decide to acquire a manual lens. Otherwise you pay too much. There's plenty of 28's around, and yes, the M28 is a good one--to my mind much better than the reviews seem to indicate.

Wait until a suitably priced lens becomes available--then snap it up.

A better choice would be the Sigma 24mm 2.8 if you can find one. Less expensive and sharper.

$70 is the sort of price you should be paying for the Vivitar 28/2. You should be able to get the A 28/2.8 for around $90.

The Takumars with bayonet mounts like that one were a budget line of lenses, they are nothing like the old screw mount Takumars. That particular lens was also sold under Cosmicar branding and is a different design entirely from any other Pentax branded 28mm. It is one of the better lenses in the bayonet mount Takumar line, but without the SMC coatings it is more prone to flare and has less contrast than the better Pentax lenses.

If it is cheap it would be worth having, but I wouldn't go over $30 for it.

Less than $30 USD in excellent condition.
