Takumar 135mm 2.5

This lens is listed on Craigslist in my area, I would love to purchase it. Can someone tell me what Version it is? It looks different like its an 80's version and not the 60's or 70's version. And is there a difference?

Heres the link to the craigslist ad:
Pentax Takumar 135mm f2.5 plus 52mm CPL and UV

Thanks

That would be a Takumar Bayonet, it is totally different from the desired SMC Takumar or SMC K mount version. It lacks the SMC coating and is a different optical design.

It is not a bad lens, it is decently sharp, but it is very prone to flare and loses contrast quickly in harsh light. I wouldn't consider it to be worth the asking price.

That's the 'K' version. It is not SMC and therefore not valued as highly as the SMC versions.
He's asking too much, they go cheaper on eBay. Offer him $40, or, better yet, wait until the SMC version comes up.

As stated above, the SMC versions are better. A couple of years ago I obtained the 2.5 bayonet version with 4 other lenses from Goodwill for maybe $90 to $100 all up. All were in excellent condition. You should be able to get a better price if you wait and look around. There is a screw mount Takumar with SMC glass in a package at Tacoma with bidding at 10.99 right now. You would need to research and buy a suitable screw to bayonet adaptor as well though (search the forums for threads on this if you are not already familiar with this). You want the 135mm SMC (K mount) Photozone has a review BTW under Pentax Lenses. I would consider it (in quality and price) to be somewhat like the 50mm f1.7. Fast, sharp, and relatively inexpensive--although not small. The later SMC Takumars (M42 screwmount) were I understand the same as the later SMC K mount--but for this lens you really need auto aperture.

I have the Takumar f2.5 135mm, paid about $65 for it some 18 years ago. I think that the $80 asked is too high. Its a decent lens, be aware that since it has no A position it is a PITA on a Pentax DSLR.

There are two different versions of the SMC Takumar. One with a 5/4 elements design and on with 6/6.
You can tell them appart by looking at the DOF scale: The 6-element model has a "4" in the middle, the 5-element only has "8 8".
Another difference is the number at the bottom of the A/M switch:
The 5-element has the number 43802, the 6-element has 43812.

I bought one of these from a guy in Houston off of CL for $20. I wouldn't suggest paying $80 for it. It is a good lens, not suitable for many situations because as has mentioned it can experience flare and sometimes be less contrast-y than desirable requiring extra PP if you get a shot with it that you like. I wanted it to try out the focal length and it is a great focal length and I do have a few really nice pictures from it. I intend to replace it eventually with a 50-135 or an autofocus 135 prime if pentax ever gets around to reissuing a new one or I come across a good deal on a F or FA 135.

There are a few in the market place that are for sale for a lot less and I would happily sell you mine for less than what the marketplace sellers are asking if you are interested although I am not actively looking to sell it at this time.
