FA* lenses no longer wanted?

They seem to be languishing in the marketplace for months and months unsold? No more love for these magnificent lenses? There's an FA* 85 f1.4 sitting there for months now, in really nice shape, one of the greatest lenses ever, by anybody. Strange...

Wasn't sure where to put this post.

Cheers,
Cameron

Well, the fact that there are lenses in the marketplace for sale isn't news or rumor. Moved to Lens Discussion. (since it's about lenses )

My guess is that people don't have the funds. To me, they're similar to the DA* line with regards to investment, and if I can't afford a DA*, I sure as heck can't afford a FA* (fwiw, the only FA* I have my eye on is the 24/2)

I think people might be getting more and more interesting in sdm, wr, etc. Noisy af is a pretty big turnoff for me personally.

Well FA*85mm is still a great lens. But it needs funding to purchase and a purpose to use in you photography.

Since we are talking about the FA* 85mm f/1.4, I *really* wanted that lens, but the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 is almost half the cost and is a great lens itself. I own the Sigma, and LOVE it, but to be honest, it doesn't get too much use as I have other lenses that fit within that range.

For Pentax APS-C (K5 and K3), for me to use the lens, I have to be in lowish light and at a medium distance for it to be relevant.

Since the Sigma is also a FF compatible lens, and is DC/HSM not screw drive, it makes it hard for me to justify buying the Pentax version even if I could find one for the price I want.

The problem I have is that the FA * lenses seemed to be priced pretty expensive for what they are. The Sigma 85mm f1.4 is priced at 900 dollars, as is the FA 77 limited -- the FA *85 is price 300 more, used, mainly based, on scarcity, I suppose.

If Pentax comes out with a new DFA *85, it will probably 1800 dollars, but I guess I can get by with my FA 77 limited.

As with everything else in life, at a price one might be interested in just about anything - but perhaps not at the prices currently showing for those FA* lenses.

They are simply too expensive for old 2nd hand lenses.

The second-hand market is slow across the board (locally + online) for lenses. Post-Christmas hangover, awaiting new products, etc.

This. If they price them accordingly, they'll move. I'm sorry but it's a buyer's market right now.

Will probably help if the seller is willing to ship worlwide instead of limiting the sale to one country.

I'd say it's more likely due to presence of lenses such as the Sigma 85/1.4 in that lens's case. For the rest, it probably has to do with their prohibitive costs relative to alternatives.

It's an issue of supply and demand. The supply of these lenses is was never vast to begin with, but since only Pentax film cameras can take full advantage of the FA*s the demand has dropped off as well. Of course, it may be that more of these lenses are being sold than you realize, but the ones that you see sitting around for 3 months on the marketplace are there because they are priced unrealistically. I myself am in the market for an FA* 28-70, but I have my price in mind, and I haven't seen it offered for that price yet, so until then I have a Tamron to hold me over.
