3rd Party Lens Recommendations

I have just about every 50mm MF lens that Pentax makes. That's my problem. Can anybody recommend any high quality MF lens from other manufacturers? Any focal length. I'm looking for lenses for my MX, ME Supers, and ME's. Ebay has over priced every Pentax lens made. I'm thinking 3rd party lenses might be cheaper to buy. Any favorite 3rd party lenses?

Everyone needs the Tam 90 model 52B. Get a K manual mount for it, and you will use it a ton.

Zenitar 16mm would be fun on film These are my 2 "must have" lenses...

Uhm, do you want to be in the 50s as well? . Zeiss Pancolar 50/1.4, 50/1.8 are a good ones. Zeiss ZK 50/1.4 is an excellent one (obviously). You can try the SMC Takumar 58/1.8, 50/1.4 (They're Pentax so I don't know if you have these). These are from the top of my head. I bet there are more.

If you want general excellent manual performer, you can go to Those guys over there are manual freaks, so they'll be very helpful.

I don't really care about the focal length, just want to try some new lenses. Thanks for the link. I will give them a try.

if you're just fooling around, grab an M42 adapter, go to ebay, search M42 and buy some cheap lenses and see what happens
edit: i didn't see you said High Quality in your initial post. the Carl Zeiss Jena's should be fun as well as the Jupiter 9 85mm lens

The only two 3rd-party manual focus lenses I have got are: Tokin 17mm/f3.5 and Zenitar 16mm/f2.8 Fish-eye. Both are very good lenses and have their uses.

And it seems you can't go wrong with any 3rd-party 135mm lenses either. All of them seem to give you excellent IQ.

If you want a macro lens, then look for Vivtar/Kiron 105mm.

some more ideas

newer lenses are consumer reveiw and the site really is doing a lot. but they a mtf score for a lot of older stuff (at least gives an idea)

has info on the adaptall 2 mount plus a good links page for info on older lenses.

Third Party Lenses Resource Megasite Home Page by Robert Monaghan

Third Party Lenses Resource Megasite Home Page

has info too. he had a page on "cult classics" (the link is still there amongst the other stuff) but the link has been dead a long time...but...

someone has a copy of the cult classics page here

Qianqian's Personal Wiki: note/photo/3PartyLens

hopefully this helps, unfortunately a lot of the really good stuff still is expensive and apatall mounts aren't cheap (I've bought cheap lenses before to get the mount to put on a good lenses

Thanks for the info Phil. Those links will keep me busy for a while. I hadn't thought about using an adaptall. That's a great idea.

Jupiter-9 85mm f/2

A steep learning curve on the usability end, but well worth the effort.
