Sigma 170-500mm fungus

I have been watching for a bigma lately , and have noticed a lot of 170-500mm with fungus for sale. Are all the bigma's prone to fungus? Or is it the environment they are used in?, outdoors, poorly cared for...

I admit I have not been looking at 170-500's but the one I used to have was a clean copy.
My advice is if you can swing it spend a bit more and go for the newer 150-500 OS for better IQ at the long end.
If you must have the 170, best version is the DG designated one.

I guess since they are nowhere near being sealed, and have so much area inside, they make a nice house for fungus. My copy has small fungus spots on the second element, but has never showed in a shot at any aperture. I keep silica packets in my bag, but Northeast Texas has never been known for dry weather...
