FA*80-200f2.8 vs FA*200f2.8 plus F135f2.8

hi friends!

I have a question for you.

I have the FA*200f2.8 and the F 135f2.8. They are two great lens, but I'm thinking to trade with the FA*80-200f2.8. In this case the two primes are not brighter than the zoom, and it cuold be more confortable using one lens instead of two...

What do you think about quality? It have not found any review about the zoom..

greetings from florence!

If I were you, I would just stick with Fa* 200mm f2.8 and F 135 f2.8

I would keep the 2 lenses. If you decide to go for the 80-200 let me know what you want for the 135mm.

Those are two primes, i don't know much about the 135mm, but the FA* is definitely lovely. Zoom can't never touch prime, especially wide open. And FYI, both of the primes combine together is still lighter than the zoom . Optically better, lighter weight, and very likely faster AF, I would call that a no brainer.

Some of my friend have this FA*80-200 lens, and the love the lens so much, consider it's the best zoom lens made by Pentax. Some even consider it's a better performer than the FA*200/2.8 (which I still don't believe). The FA135/2.8 is known to be quite soft wide open w/ quite severe CA problem. The FA*200/2.8 is one of the best AF lenses ever made. I had all three but only the FA200/2.8 right now. I really didn't like the size and weight of the FA*80-200, and I did feel its zoom ring was kinda weak and might stop working someday (mostly due to its Power Zoom design). Optically it's excellent. It might not be the sharpest 70/80-200/2.8 lens, but it certainly produces some love photos (excellent color, cream bokeh and some hard to explain lovely rendering). But I sold it of soon after I got the FA*200/2.8. It's so much easier to carry around. I'd rather have something I'd like to carry and use instead of something I hate to bring out.

Now we have an excellent DA*50-135 available. I think the DA50-135 + FA*200/2.8 combo is a better option than your FA135/2.8+FA*200/2.8 combo or the FA*80-200 alone Compare w/ the DA*50-135, the FA135/2.8 only wins on the size/weight and probably AF speed (yes, it's one of the fastest AF lenses by Pentax). Optically the DA*50-135 is a better lens at 135mm end.
