The 35 is pretty much the same since they are both 35 3.5. As far as 135s the K 135 2.5 is better than my SMC 135 3.5.

But more than anything I'm happy not having deal with adapters if I dont have to. I'm only keeping 3 M42 lenses: Helios 44-2, Auto Sears 55 1.4 and Auto Mamiya/Sekor 55 1.4. All of which I got for $60 combined.

I'm pretty sure that number only includes the 3/4 most popular focal lengths. Didn't he have like 70 50mm lenses alone?

6. Each with a different purpose.

I've owned many more than that, but made a rule never to keep a lens I'm not using, or never owning a duplicate. It has allowed me to purchase better glass. I consider that my kit is mostly made of the best in each category (some might argue, but you get the point).

Would you mind listing them? Very interested to see what you guys with 'small' quality collections have. Thanks.

Yes. It would be nice for the folks with 3-6 "high quality" lenses to share what they have and why they chose it.

I have a bunch of eBay bargain bin stuff, in the interests of just trying out lenses. And of course, to provide lenses that I don't care too much about to my 13 year old daughter. I mean, even if it's a "decent" lens, will I REALLY care if she destroys a lens that cost me less than $10 with shipping?

It's in my signature

Sigma 17-70 | DA 18-55 WR | DA* 60-250 WR | DA 21 mm LTD | DA 40mm LTD | DFA100mm macro WR

I have a small WR kit (18-55 + 100 WR)
One long tele (60-250) which can be added to the WR kit when small is not required
One all-purpose lens (Sigma 17-70) offering a nice range, reasonably fast aperture, close-up capabilities, fine IQ. It's my main go-to lens.
A small primes kit (21, 40, 100) when IQ is paramount, or when I want to travel really light.
One macro lens (100 WR)

The 18-55 is of course the weakest link, for the same purpose the 18-135 would be more convenient, but I doubt I would see such a gain optically. And the size is the main driving force here (I use WR when hiking, camping, etc).

One could argue that the FA43 is better than the DA40, or that I would be better served by a 50. I haven't tested the former, and prefer 40 to 50. The faster AF of the 40 is important to me (in the studio mainly) and no one would say it's a dog.

One could also choose another lens instead of the 21 (15, 31 if you can afford it, DA35 macro) but I like that lens, and again no one would claim it's a dog.

So there you have it. Some focal length duplication, but no "purpose" duplication.

That is an interesting reason to choose the 40 over the 43, didn't realize there was such a difference in AF speed.

You're lucky to have a wife who likes them too

Detatchable? I think 22. I only use about 19 of them though, does that help or hurt my cause?

Mrs. ElJamoquio is quite a fan, she wants more.

Nice litle collection so bound to say that you like to shoot a variety of landscapes to macros.

A few too many -
Primes: Rokinon 8 fisheye - Pentaxi DA21 Ltd, DA40xs, DA70 Ltd - Sigma 105 1:1 macro - Hanimar 400mm preset = 6 primes, plus a couple of 50s on film bodies... eight primes?
Zooms: DA L 18-55 (white), DA WR 50-200 plus Quantarays 28-90 1:2 macro, 100-300 & a 28-80 f/2.8-4 arrives tomorrow = 5 zooms.

Hm, better get a Hobbit to ensure I'm not at thirteen!
Oh wait nine primes, the SMC-A 24mm isn't getting used thanks to the DA21 but it's still here... somewhere.

David - I think you have more control than most of us here.

da15 - best low distortion ultra wide angle lens out there
sigma 20-40 - slightly sharper than the FA20-35 and the zoom+focus rings are better dampered. the FA20-35 is a great lens, but at times I found it's zoom and/or focus changing with what seemed like merely a strong gust of side wind. the 20-40 also removed the da 40 from my bag, reducing the number of lens changes i'd have while perched precariously in the middle of a stream. the sigma 20-40 also wins at f16 with noticeably less diffraction.
fa50 macro & fa 100 macro - specialty flower and bug lenses and arguably some of the best glass ever made by pentax
sigma 100-300 f4 - there's a reason this lens has a cult following
f50 1.7 - another ff compatible lens that is great for portrtaits on aps-c, both people and pets. it is also great for video at f4

there's my main kit, geared toward FF lenses because I love the edge to edge no distortion sharpness I get with ff glass on an aps-c sensor
I also have a sigma 10-20, with the 10mm setting used for very cool specific shots/effects. the fa 20-35 is still with me as well because it's too good to part with, same with the da 40
these 3 lenses go with me as my backup kit, aka what the gf shoots with. she has my second fa 50 macro as well

lenses I have owned and resold because of lesser IQ or frustratingly slow AF (yes you mr da 50-135) include the sigma 17-70, da 50-200, da 55-300, sigma 50-500, sigma 24-70 macro (great iq until f8 and then it all goes to hell quickly), sigma 12-24 (awesome iq but cant use filters and I shoot with ND filters almost 50% of the time), and fa 135 (iq was great but was never used especially after acquiring 100 macro)

Greg - I can see what you mean, but which ones would you keep then and how many?

I have 21 K-mount lenses, and 7 m43 lenses. Of those, 18 get at least some use. I really do need to sell the lenses I'm not using (unfortunately, none of them are worth that much).
