Your responses and suggestions are sure to be interesting.
Hello Ivan,

Could I suggest 1) You make a comprehensive list of your lens collection 2) Tell your "survivors" they will inherit your beloved assortment of optics 3) Indicate an approximate value or price they might get on the used market for each 4) List places to put them up for sale. I own a large assortment of lenses myself and I would never even think of letting any go.

Best Regards

I find the speed of delivery of lenses from Japan depends on the shipper. If the lens is shipped via DLH I get it in 3 to 4 days. If the lens is shipped via FedEx it takes 7 to 10 days. Go figure.

1. Keep everything and leave it all to my survivors as their version of a "strange inheritance."
Do they know the value of your gear or - if not - do you intend to tell them? I've seen quite a lot of pieces of gear for sale, and it ranges from bad photos and descriptions where you can't make out half of what is offered, to great photos and bad descriptions where a buyer can make the deal of his lifetime if he dares to look through all those offerings for some time, through to badly overpriced stuff that will never sell... And I'd say the same for collections of gear after they reach a certain size - there's always going to be something in those which stops people who have that from buying the whole lot, even if the price is kind of right.

Mainly I just hate to think of my survivors puzzling over what to do with the collection.
I think with a collection of that size it's going to afford a sizable amount of dedication to get accustomed to everything and the value it has and to convert this value somehow. Best case would be someone who is as interested in photography as you and who would continue using at least some of the gear, and having an idea how much everything is worth or at least where to look that up and convert it. Otherwise I very much like your idea to reduce everything to what you still use, like the most,...

I have six lenses. Two of them are manual lenses (50 mm f/2 and 135 mm f/3.5) which I have inherited from my father-in-law. They don't get used much as I am more into zooms (except for my 100 mm macro WR). I don't expect to add any to the collection in the foreseeable future unless I find a cheap used long telephoto lens (more than 300 mm).

Sweet. My 20-40mm limited took a month from Oz. The 100mm f2.8 constitutes my entire wish list future reference, there is a latest acquisitions thread on here

@pepperberryfarm I was slightly surprised by the omission of the 15mm limited and the 20-40mm limited, but that is one superb collection

Where's the dry box???!!!

BTW, most of your heirs probably could care less about lenses. If someone is a photog, send them them all. If not, consider other routes: sell here/ebay, donate to a club or school, find a young apprentice (named 'Anakin'!) or some such.

thank you...

neither of those lenses have really interested me - you'll notice that I have few zooms, plus the DA 14/2.8 is just so good....

Great collection. You have many lenses that I do not have, and many that I would enjoy having as well. I could not help noting the differences in our collecting philosophy or practices. First, I have stuck entirely to using Pentax mounts--M42, K, and P645, and P67--and adapting or converting other lenses to those mounts. I often use adapters to fit 3rd party lenses on to both K and P645 cameras, and in a few instances have either Leitaxed or custom remounted lens to fit the K mount. Secondly, a few years ago I took a turn toward medium format, and now have most of the M645 and M67 lenses except for the super long (and super expensive) telephotos. Thirdly, in the past I have tended to acquire most of a particular range of lenses rather than concentrating upon a specific focal length or lens type, i.e., M645, M67, and Mamiya 645 C. Just in the last year or so I have developed a fascination with Leica lenses, and have the same two that you have, the 135 and 90 (the other 90) plus the 35-70 vario, which can change minds about zoom lenses. I am also interested in getting a few more C/Y Zeiss lenses.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the information about your collection. I enjoy seeing your work, including the chairs, and like seeing which additional lenses you come up with.

thank you...

I tried the Adaptist mount to stay with a Pentax body for adapted lenses and just found it too limiting... hence the Fuji bodies I now have...

I've noticed your turn to Leica lenses - I have a pair of them and they are amazing, but the cost (in general) can be prohibitive...

you can definitely tell from my list that I have preferences in focal lengths, rather than specific manufacturers or ranges - I love the 55-58mm focal length...

right now, I'm on an early Takumar binge - the preset Tak's are fascinating to me, so we'll see where that goes....

Wow!!!! I should probably ask my wife to have a look at this thread before complaining me of having more lenses.

I got 7 lenses for my K1 and 2 for my K30.
