I don't see too many mechanics/carpenters have to be on the go with their wrenches/saws though. I have a lot of gear, but not nearly as much as some out there....and I have a hard time deciding what to bring on a short walk around town. Then i get to a location to shoot and have to ponder what lens to use. I starting considering the gear more than my composition and the photo i am trying to make.

89? Wow. How many do you use regularly?
When I am doing stage photography (quite often), the two DA* lenses are my main lenses. When I am traveling, the DA18-135 plus the three FA limited lenses. The majority of the lenses are MF lenses that are mostly used for fun.

Well let me see.

M 50/f2 lens that was on my K1000. The aperture ring is giving me some problems, tight to move.
M 28/ f2.8, used on my K-01
M 135/ 3.5, again used on my K-01
DA 55-300, my long lens on my K200D
Tamron 17-55, for my K200D and K-01
Tamron 90/2.8 macro
Tokina 500/8 mirror
Promaster 28-80/3.5-5.6, lens on my ZX-L
Raynox M-150

And two canon mount lenses

Rick

I got you beat then. Two more lenses, a film cam & a TC...

Which I posted above

Mind you in November, before Black Friday. I had exactly one K-x, an 18-55 DAL & a 55-300 DAL...
I'm still south of 20 lenses, but have so far acquired three bodies as part of the deals. Too bad I don't shoot film any more...

Oooo....it's 20

I counted 17 K-mount + 1TC. and also 3 Q-mount +the Q-K

18 of these lenses acquired since getting back into (D)SLR photography in 2009.

It's the prime lenses that get you.

A guy at work wanted to have a look at some DSLR gear doing research for his girlfriend who is getting into photography (product art / still life).

I grabbed my little Domke F-5XC bag put in the K-5IIs, a WR zoom and TEN! prime lenses from 15mm to 135mm. They all fitted in.
He questioned whether I really needed all those lenses. He was late getting home.

She'll probably end up with a 70D - because it's got a touchscreen like a smartphone and with the cheapie(superceded) 18-200 Sigma kit because it's "macro".

Why do I do this to myself? I went to shopgoodwill.com, just to look I said to myself. Next thing you know I'm bidding on a Sears 28/2.8. Winning bid $9.99. Shipping & 'Handling' $15.35...

This one is from Seattle, lets see if they take as long as Tacoma to ship items after payment. So, in most likely two weeks time, I will have 65 lenses.

Are the Sears lenses that good? My local Goodwill has an auction each week of camera stuff. They had a couple Sears lenses last month. Who actually made them?

Sears lenses were sourced from several different makers. The Sears K-mount cameras were mostly from Ricoh, though the KSX-P was from Chinon. The 28 I just bought is from Korea, so Samyang?

I once bought a Sears 50/1.7 (Chinon) from shopgoodwill for $5 plus $5 shipping.

Was the lens good? Just wondering because my local Goodwill, as I said, has weekly auctions. Mostly lenses and cameras because they do not know how to value them. Other than K mount Sears, any suggestions?

just picked up a tamron lens for 2 sd cards that I bought off here 4 for $20

Sold the WR kit lens for 90 so I'm back down to two lenses (plus the one in the mail)

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and SMC FA 50mm f/1.4

two lenses I find cover most all my shooting quite well

the tamron zoom (28-80 3.5-4.6 I think) will probably be flipped or traded

The lens was very good. Good enough that I sold the M50/1.7 I had at the time. (I have since acquired another M50/1.7, 2 A50/1.7s, and a FA50/1.7. LBA much?) I also have a Sears 60-300, rather heavy, & long at the 300mm end. Sears sold many different 135s, including some with a "macro" feature that really just applied soft focus.

There were many different store brands, most of which came from the same factories. JCPenney, Quantaray, Albinar, Gemini, Focal, etc. some were good, some were bad, some were so bad they might be interesting. If you can get them cheap they are worth checking out. Follow RioRico's sandwich rule. (Just search the forums...)

That is an interesting reason to choose the 40 over the 43, didn't realize there was such a difference in AF speed.
I have never been able to justify selling my DA40 (bought at $250 or 350 several years ago) since I primarily use it for landscapes and it is really good at that.

As far as my lenses go. It looks like 23 split into 3 groups.

My typical kit that I pick and choose from (3-4 go in the bag) - these are my keepers. tbh I could keep only these and be perfectly happy.
DA15
K24f2.8
K35f3.5 - rarely gets used
DA40
M50f4macro - rarely gets used
A50f1.7 - first MF lens that got all of this started
DFA100WR
M135f3.5
18-55 kit lens - I don't use zooms enough to upgrade but this has WR so it gets carried

Takumar kit - I really don't use these enough to justify keeping them but they are beautiful
SMC 35f3.5
SMC 55f1.8
Super 105f2.8
Tele 200f5.6 - I should really sell this and get at least the M200f4 since I would use it more as my longest lens

The rest that I might as well sell and put the money towards something useful. Most of them aren't worth much though which is why they stay in the cabinet.
M28f2.8 - I used this a lot at first but the K24 and K35 are better
Vivitar28f2.8 - A contacts but I never really used this for some reason
JCPenney 28f2.8
Super Takumar 35f3.5 - a duplicate that was part of an ebay lot
M50f1.7
M50f1.7
M50f2
F35-70
Promaster 70-210
Sears 80-200
K200D - this is on the chopping block as well. I would replace it with either a Q, a Ricoh GR or a K-01 to at least have a second camera body around.

The want list is long but that is mostly for building collections (fun but unnecessary) or for more limited or star lenses (really expensive).
K28f3.5 - I want to try this since I really like this range and the K24f2.8 is good but not great
M85f2 - It's a special lens and I don't have anything around here
DA20-40WR - ridiculously expensive but this would probably become my most used lens since I hike a lot. I have even started looking at the M24-35 or M24-50 as cheap ($100ish) alternatives to see if I like using the limited focal range of the 20-40.
DA*300 - just dreaming but it would be nice to have a great 300mm lens with a relatively short min focus distance (sorry M*300)
