How many lenses do I have? Almost enough

9 autofocus primes from 15-300mm. I would not be without any of them.
4 autofocus zooms. I might move the Sigma 70-200 on.

The only lenses on my roadmap are the new HD DA 1.4x teleconverter and maybe the Sigma 18-35/1.8
If a reasonably priced A*85 fell in my lap I wouldn't complain either....

I used to think I had a unique and peculiar affliction. Then I found this forum and the diagnosis (which I'd never heard of before).Yes, LBA. I had no idea so many suffered in the same way! I thought I had 22 lenses (Pentax) then I remembered the Nikons and Mamiyas that I never use. I guess that makes 26. Unless I forgot something else.

The photography bug does hit hard. I really enjoy taking pictures and the equipment ( i hope in that order). I have accumulated about 13 in two years. Some I don't count to much bc they were picked up on the real cheap, and they didn't wk out because of something was wrong with the lens, it's a a bit of a dog, or I just don't use it. None of these are worth selling so they take up space mostly.
The lenses I use mostly are,
A 50 1.2
M 50 macro
M 28 2.8
M 85 2
And i just saved and bought the sigma 17-50 2.8 non os ( the 28 will now see much less use)
I don't have anything long yet, but i don't shoot that way often. I also want to use my super tak 50 1.4 more but only borrow my gf's adapter when i can.

I have one in pristine condition. Bought it new about 25 years ago. I have contemplated selling it but it is a difficult thought. Hmmm?

Right now I have 8, but I'll probably acquire at least two more by the end of the year.

Hi Sandy - You have almost enough You have a fairly small number compared to most of us that have replied so far. The new teleconverter is awfully expensive though for what it is from the comments.

Hi PKMike - We're around the same number of lenses, I have accumulated some more bodies as well too but that's for another discussion

Meeverett - you're also on the lower end of the spectrum so good for you, your LBA is more in check than most of us

17 in total:

1x Leica M mount
4x Fuji-X Mount
2x X-Pan Mount
10x Pentax K-Mount.

Since I barely touch my pentax gear, I don't think that will grow any more, but I do have plans to add to my Fuji-X mount collection.

I wouldn't say "such a difference" but everyone who has tested both agree that the DA40 is definitely faster.

Thanks for starting the good reasons on what you decided to keep. I see why you kept what you kept.
A pleasure.

most people I think that have had both like the FA 43 more as well.
I really, really wish that if/when Pentax update the FA limiteds, they make them WR, add quickshift and DC AF for faster focusing. Then I will replace my DA40 with a 43.

I like the idea of the Sigma 17-70 as its cheaper than the DA 16-50 and a little longer
I find that it's the perfect range for a walkaround, it's reasonably fast, reliable, and close focusing is really helpful.

I didn't feel like counting my lenses, so I asked my wife if she knew how many I had. She said, "Too many". It's somewhere around 30 or so.

Hey Derek - you're from Nelson! I grew up in Nelson! I don't think of Nelson as having many Pentaxians You look like you have a selection geared to capturing wildlife. Which of the long lenses do you like the best?

Hi Hks_kansei - Nice little selection you have as well
Yes. I used the 150-500 last summer with very nice results. I use the DA*300 most of the time. Light is quite limited during the winter.

Greg - I can see what you mean, but which ones would you keep then and how many?
I think a general rule applies: keep the one's you use on at least a semi-regular basis. I have lenses, for example, that I never use and never want to use (DA 18-55 I, M 28/2.8, M 50/2, Vivitar 80-200/4.5). They're hardly worth the trouble of selling, which is another issue.

I'll keep a lens if (1) I like what it produces (particularly in terms aesthetic qualities, not just sharpness or other numerical specs); and (2) It fits my shooting style. I don't own any fast wide angle or normal FOV lenses because I don't need fast aperture at those focal lengths. I don't own the DA* 55 or the FA 77 because I'm not a portrait shooter.

One of the reasons I've wound up with so many lenses is that I prefer primes but sometimes require the focal range versatility of a zoom. So I have landscape prime kit (DA 15, M 20/4, K 28/3.5, K 35/3.5) and a landscape zoom kit (FA 20-35, FA 24-90). I have two primes for critters (DFA 100, DA* 300) and a zoom for critters (Tamron 70-200). Then there are the specialty lenses as well (K 50/1.2, F 85/2.8 Soft). All these lenses get some use. Some, like the DA* 300 and FA 20-35, get a lot of use. Some, like the DA 15, the K 35/3.5, the K 50/1.2, and the DFA 100, I wish I could use more often, as they are stellar lenses but aren't needed that often. That's the chief problem with having too many lenses, particularly too many superb lenses: there's glass that's bound to get neglected, unjustly.
